So, I am interested in these Cree conversions I see you guys putting in your G2's. What brand are they and where do you buy them? What performance gains do you see? What is run time and lumen?

Thanks

I can't comment on the Cree conversion since I don't have one. I do have a few surefire incandescents though. You might try www.candlepowerforums.com and www.surefire.com for a lot of your answers. Hope this helps.

Quite a bit of discussion about inexpensive LED and rechargeable batteries in this thread.

Flashlight Thread

I did not buy the exact LED setup that Wave suggested.  I bought a non-flashing option replacement at the same site.  Shipping was about two weeks.  I'm pretty happy with it overall.  It needs to be beaten around for a while to see how well it holds up.

Just FYI, SureFire will be releasing a CREE version of the G2 very shortly.

+1  Yep.   Works great.   It is just about the best 12 bucks you can spend.

Get the 3.6 volt rechargable 123 batteries and charger also, for about another 10 bucks.

The shipping might take 30 days, but it's worth the wait.

You can check out the thread I started to post up the differences in the beams and what not. Several other members posted images of the beams.

Yep, that's the one I went with.
Mine has a slight gap just as described in some of the comments on the DX website.
The oring still has plenty of room to seal, so I don't think there's much cause for concearn.

How much run time do you get? A regular bulb is 1 hour, thats it. What would you guys estimate these at?

I have that one in my 6P and G2. Bright, and runs cooler.
I had to take off the big spring to make it work in the G2.

CREE bulbs are bright LED's. They don't really burn out like the P60's do.  But they do use a lot of voltage so the battery will run out after about 2 hours. They burn bright for about an hour then dimmer as voltage drops.

So the real gain here is the fact that you will never change the bulb and maby a little lumenage. Hmm I wonder if there is a 1 watt Cree conversion, that should give you a lot of run time and about 30 lumens.
