I am looking at upgrading my GHB from the current Eagle A-III MOLLE to an Eagle BFM (the BFM offering a bit more room and easier access). I am also looking at finally getting my poncho liner for the car kit.

Well, here comes the rediculous question.... What color?

Yes, friends..... What color?

My original Motherlode pack was desert camo. I love that pattern on general principles, but I always wondered what a guy walking home with one would look like, and if it would attract too much attention. Also, being up in the NE USA doesn't exactly put me in desert camo landscapes.

Multicam is great, but the BFM isn't available in it, nor is any poncho liner I've seen.

So the choice comes down to OD Green, Woodland Camo, Black, or ACU.

Woodland camo is out for the same reason as the desert camo: too obvious. Black, I think, doesn't blend well with anything. That leaves OD and ACU.

Suggestions?

I can't believe I'm asking this....

OD

Off topic, but I've thought about painting my 94 caprice OD as well

Part of what's bugging me here is that the ACU shown in the photo below bears no resemblance to the ACU I've seen in airports across the country. The photo looks more like MARPAT than ACU, and I'm not sold on ACU.

Khaki/Tan

Blends in better amongst all the slacks and khakis of scared sheeple I think.

Why you need such a big GHB?

Long way to go, and I carry EVERYTHING in it, including a full change of clothes, food, water, and gear.

I second the tan/khaki recommendation, if you can get the bag in that color.  If not, then the O.D. Green.  I have a similar bag in tan; and, it seldom gets a second glance.  That's just the way I want it, too.

Cool. Just curious. I figured it was a distance issue.

I may start a job soon that requires driving a route rather than just sticking around my small town so I have been worried about the "what ifs" if something happened at the far points of the route.

Same here.
Any camo will get the "OH Look Factor".

Just as an FYI, I sent a question to Eagle and they responded by sending me the following swatches (which I reduced in size a bit).

Looks like Foliage isn't exactly OD. Looks more like a brown/grey green.

Khaki or coyote. Blends in with people and with the environment. Deer wear khaki you know.

Sadly, it doesn't come in Coyote. Only in Desert Camo.

After seeing the samples, I still say OD.

hey bro, that's a dead ringer for what I wear every day, what my Uncle gave me...

shade is correct, pattern is correct, go for it if you want ACU digital

So what is up with the washed-out near-silver look to the ACU stuff I've seen troops wearing?

What about safety yellow / orange? With reflective stripes?

Think of it this way - throw a yellow hard hat on top, and anybody seeing you walking down the road will figure you as a utility worker rather than someone who might be "prepared" (possible target).

Unless, of course, the BO is due to an outage, and they vent their anger in your direction.

Just a thought about blending in by being obvious... like the criminals who case houses wearing safety vests and carrying "survey maps"...

Your right! Desert Camo is sooo early 90's. I'd first call Eagle and ask them for a khaki version (I have an A-III in that color), and if that fails, get the foliage. It seems like a good compromise.

If you are gonna carry/use this bag a lot, then I suggest forking over the extra money for the real BFM.  Camelbak BFM.  I posted a "should I buy this" thread when I was gonna buy a new pack and people responded saying the "off brand" BFMs were not made as well as the Camel.  And under LOTS of use the buckles and straps just didn't hold up to the abuse.  So I bought the Camelbak BFM.  I don't use my enough, yet, to really give you a report but some of the replies to my thread were from guys that really abuse their packs.  So I went with their advice.

BTW - I like OD.  That is what I bought.
