I'm building a tiny BOB, and a Bug out bottle. Gonna get a first aid kit, but here are some stuff from my Amazon wish list 2 check out. http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/XJ0L7SRKQ77B/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go/104-8838537-9077503 To start with: Gerber shortcut, Firesteel army model, And water tablets. (I keep 1 large A frame knife, 5 snack bars, TP, 2 lighters, 1 magnifying glass, and some other stuff) Food: I'd like to try the Mountain house food packs. Where to get a good price? And a leatherman wave. |

DOnt get those water tabs. Look for these: www.ahappycamper.com/products/water_purifiers/pur/micropur.html They are more expensive, but they are in individual blister paks and arent iodine based, some ppl get sick from the iodine tablets, plus those bottled ones can go bad quicker. Otherwise your on your way. Research the gear you getting, buy quality once. |
plus a thousand on quality forst, do not go cheap or make your own out of chewing gum and baleing wire. buy quality once and never look back |

+1 on skipping the Potable Aqua. If you want to go the iodine route, then get Polar Pure. Polar Pure |

viral stop bout same cost as the rest. Only down fall is it is strong. you add to much( large drops or 1-2 extra-cuz you thinkits super nasty h20 ) and it tatse like your drinking pool water! just remember if you do a "bottle" kit that what you put in it may leave a residue or smell in it.( some firestartings tuff plastics etc) IMHO a better kit could be made in pouch with one of the platapus bags rolled up in it. take up less space and all. YMMV |
that is one big advantage over all the others, no bad taste It's the taste... For most people, it's the taste that matters. Despite the name "chlorine dioxide", this isn't like chlorine bleach, or for that matter, chlorine. Chemically, it's different. There is very little, or no taste associated with it. When you drink spring water treated with AquaMira, it actually tastes like spring water. Little or no chlorine taste. No iodine taste. Many backpacking filters are impregnated with iodine because that is the only way they can kill the tiny viruses that slip through. Not so with AquaMira. In fact, our testers found that it actually improves the taste of stale, stagnant or foul tasting water. Powerful but safe... AquaMira is extremely potent, yet safe. It kills everything. As part of our research we interviewed a college professor with a PhD in chemical engineering, says chlorine dioxide is the best and safest water treatment for ANY kind of water treatment. It's been used in city water treatment plants for years, but until recently was too unstable for use in backpacking. With AquaMira, that has changed. |
yeah the tatse is to strong, reason why ive only used it for super nasty nasty h20. I also plan to replace it becuase of the tatse your wife/GF kid may not drink it becuase of the "taste", which i would not want to happen if there is a BO on foot. Ive looked at the auqa mira stuff, i can nomrally get good priceing on mcnett items. The bottle on the viral stop also breaks. my cap broke and it leaked inside my filter cases eating through it! While it works, its to strong IMHO, but also one of the sub 10$ liquid options out there. |
