All, I have several packs in various stages of ruin that I would like to replace with one pack. Having said that, I would like for it to be somewhat versatile. I carry it to work daily, often times with a laptop in it. I also want to replace my hunting and day hike packs with this pack. I will also occasionally drag this thing on a plane to fly across country for work. I want hydration compatible, prefer something molle compatible pals webbing setup. I don't mind spending some good cash on it, as long as it will last me several years. The packs I have looked at include in order of how well I like it. 1. SpecOps T.H.E. pack. I like this one with the pals webbing and the removable frame. 2. Maxpedition Condor - I REALLY like the CCW vecro strips and holster inside the pack 3. CTD - I'm just afraid this thing isn't going to last. Anyone have any experience with any of these packs? What recommendations do you have? I definately want pals webbing so I can add pouches on as needed to the outside. |
I use the cheaper than dirt dirt pack. It has been good since Christmas when I got it and I use it everyday for work(3 days a week). I have heard complaints about the buckles but mine has been fine. Having said all of that I wouldn't put a laptop in there unless I added a little extra padding at the bottom and sides. I hope your laptop isn't to big or I dought that you could closer the top. the model I have cost about 29.95 or so.
Check out a Kelty 3500. I was issued one during our last deployment and it lasted the whole time and I use it now for a day pack. I carry my laptop, lunch, firstaid kit and all the other crap that makes it's way into it. It has a hydration bladder and a couple water bottle mesh pockets.
For $30 the CTD pack is pretty good. But I probably don't use mine as hard as you. If I were to do it all over again I would get a Tactical Tailor 3 day pack. I have a buddy with a Maxpedition and he really likes it.
IMHO you can't go worng with a Camelbak BHM. I have had mine for almost 2 years here in Kabul. Other than being dirty, I see absolutely no wear. It's not like I am out doing combat missions, but it does get thrown in and out of trucks and such 4 or 5 times a day. It is also my carry-on bag and fits my 17 inch HP laptop just fine.
