What is the general consensus on the Anthrax vaccine?

Just received another shot yesterday. According to the pamphlet, it's mandatory in the sandbox. Once you return stateside, it's optional.

I've hear alot of tinfoil hattery. Alot of possible side effects, etc.

But the survival side says it's free, so why not get it?

Thoughts? Suggestions?  anyone had any seriuos side effects?

I just got that one on Friday... and damn my arm still hurts... Incidentally, I am feeling a little sick today, but thats probably cuz I got small pox, typhoid and hep A all at the same time. Gotta love the medics.

I hear ya. I got sicker than a dog off smallpox.

Anthrax isn't a big deal. Burns for a few minutes, then usually it's done. Feel a little bit of the chills today, but that's it.

I'm jsut trying to decide if any side effects, real or theoretical, would outweigh the benefits.

it's fine.

i was actually involved in some of the research protocols USAMRIID. they were still doing trials on the already approved vaccine in 1989. out of 150 test subjects NONE had any lasting ill effects.

i have had it and everyone i served with at usamriid had it as a mandatory vaccine.

there is a VERY small percentage <as with ay vaccine> that MAY have some adverse reactions. weaponised anthrax is a small concern. coming in contact with infected animals in 3rd world shitholes is a VERY likely concern.

anthrax in general is rarely lethal. the weaponised version is more of a mass debilatant than anything else. makes you to sick to fight but is rarely lethal if treated.

take the vaccine. the disease is MUCH worse than the shot and the likelyhood of being exposed is not small around animlas.

I got my shots 4 years ago (it was a HUGE deal then) before deploying to the Gulf and I have no ill effects.  Small Pox was worse.

I've had the 6 shot series and the current 3 shot series.  Hasn't caused me a bit of problems.  I'd take the booster if it was available.

I think one of the concerns about vaccines in general is about what is in the shot along with the vaccine.

do you have any info on "what" is in the shot other than the vaccine?

Nope. But i can tell you that i've got a rather nice lump on my shoulder now. lol...

The med techs might have more information. But all they tell the recipient is "you're getting this. You're due again on X".
