This is great to show non-prepping friends or family.  "Look at this, the Red Cross and FEMA say we should always keep 2 weeks of food on hand.  Gee, maybe we should do that!"

It's a nice compilation of all the stuff that we try to tell people: have bottled water on hand, store what you eat, 3 ways to purify water, it's safe to eat food out of the can. Even a section on keeping a BOB without calling it that.

They're mistaken on some other stuff though, like the shelf like of canned soup or veggies is only 1 year.  Get real, we know better than that.

It would make a good primer for the reluctant spouse as well.

Well you f**k'd up when you said Red Cross.
Those lying POS when we had the Tornado They spent time getting face time on the news. I never once saw a red cross person in my neighborhood even three hundred homes were destroyed. They shut down the relief area that the local Vol. Fire dept. had set up and was in their preplans for years. The Red Cross and FEMA said it did not meet THEIR plans(they had approved the preplans 4 years before).
I used to support and Vol. for the Red Cross but I stopped after 9/11/01 and the tricks they tried with the money.

Don't be too hard on them, at least not the ones on the ground helping. They are the ones that matter, not the stuffed shirts who go looking for the camera. (I think we know all about those pukes)  If nothing else look at it this way: If the only thing you learn is what NOT to do or try, you have saved time and money. Learn from them (from any source, it doesn't matter who) and ignore the rest.  Can you afford to be that picky when it comes to your survival? I can't.

If you depend on yourself, the Red Cross, FEMA,
and other aid organizations wont matter.  They
all have plenty of literature on how to prepare, but I
dont expect anyone outside my family to help,
because chances are excellent that they wont.

If you want to support a "disaster relief force" but the Red Cross doesn't suit you, consider looking at the Mennonite Disaster Service. It's church-based, and somewhat prone to the same kind of political nonsense that afflicts the Red Cross, but does good work nonetheless.
