Hello all.
I learned to tie flies when I was younger and built up a decent supply of feathers, fur, thread, etc. I got stationed in Japan and thus my fly thing supies sat dormant for seven years. How much of it is good? I imagine it all should be fine since there is no real pressure put on things like string or wool. I'm in W WA now and looking to dust it all off, re string the for and get out there and fly fish. |

I didnt know you were into fly fishing as well. It figures, as I am moving away from being in the middle of prime trout area to salt water.
I guess I will have to pick up a 8wt and learn how to fish some salt water. If you ever get the chance to head to idaho hit me up as I have a few rivers for you to try. |

I haven't done it in eight or nine years but I miss the hell out of it. And most definitely! |

I've got some fly tying stuff from the 50's and 60's. Some stuff from the 80's and some relatively recent stuff from the last 15 years. Man made stuff will last for years. Feathers can become brittle; but don't toss them in the trash. Some of the older tiers have told me to soak brittle feathers in a couple table spoons of hair conditioner mixed in water to refresh them and soften them up. I use a smaller Tupperware container for that. They do seem to break a lot less after a soak...
You shouldn't have to worry too much about thread unless it was sitting in the sun. |
