Well this turned out to be a fun filled weekend. Let me start back in the beginning, last Friday was my sons 3rd birthday. All week long he was talking about how he wanted to go see the trucks (he saw the commercials on TV). So on Friday after I got home from work we took all of the kids here!

After that we were going to a different part of the state to visit some friends. So we got home packed the truck and went to bed. We woke up at 0500 and headed out. The drive was not that bad and when we arrived we unpacked and got settled in.

A little while after we got there my wife’s friend’s husband wanted to go fishing. He said he never really fly fished before but he wanted to try. So we packed the gear and headed out and fished a river around this area.

The fishing was good but not spectacular or anything like that. I was happy to see that even though he brought his spin rod he was only using his fly rod. He was able to hook into and land a few white fish. I caught some whites as well and some cutts. It was a pretty fun day but man was this river crowded.

We headed back to his house (back to the wife’s and all of our kids). After we got them all settled in we talked about fishing another area tomorrow. Our wife’s said sure go have fun, so we packed the car, ate some dinner and drank some ale.

The following morning we headed out. It was a lot colder and a bit on the windy side. We decided to fish a different area. I was all for it as I wanted to see some of the different places out there. So we headed out to the river and got geared up. As I was getting ready I noticed that I left my camera back at the house (oh well I thought to myself).

When I got out there I began to fish, I got a hit, set the hook and as the fish got closer I noticed it was not a trout. Jim said to me man I have never seen a white fish come out of this place you must attract them. I released the fish and went back to fishing, got another hit and another damn white fish. Crap I thought to myself, so I decided to ditch nymphing and check out some streamer action.

This proved to be a good call; I cast out a few times and got nothing. Then I cast out started stripping and got a hit, I set the hook and started the fight. As the fish got closer I noticed that it was not a white fish, it was a brown. I landed this nice guy, released him then Jim’s phone rang. It was the wife’s they wanted us to come back so we could hang out a bit before we left.

We packed up the truck and headed back to the house. Overall it was a fun three days, I was happy that I was able to turn somebody on to fly fishing hopefully he sticks with it.

That is funny. We were at an outdoors show a couple of weeks ago and a monster truck was there. My 3yo son had to have a ride so we all loaded up and had a blast. We were the only ones on the ride so the driver went all out. It is impressive the g's those things can develop while doing donuts in the dirt. We, I meen my son, had a blast! Right now he is playing with his monster truck toy I found on blow out sale yesterday.

Yea white fish suck, but at least they are fish The Cutts and Browns were pretty nice over there. Maybe it is because it is winter but I don't see what all the hype is about those forks.
