Was out fishing today, mostly expecting bluegill, on a whim my brother decides to throw out a plastic minnow probably a foot and a half under a bobber, and he pulls this in....

Think it's a smallmouth, but we catch so few that we aren't sure.
Wouldn't you know it, probably a half hour later, on a piece of hot dog, I hooked the same guy! Definitely the same fish, he had a big hole where he was hooked the first time.

I wish I had my camera with me, these pictures were taken with my phone. It had some really cool coloration. You can kind of see in the second pic, there was a line of shiny aquamarine colored spots right under it's eye.

Got answered a month ago... the fish in the op is a green sunfish. sp00ky posted some good pictures of some green sunfish, as well as some pictures of smallmouth and some rockbass for comparison.

I also just did a quick search, because I thought warmouth and rockbass were separate fish, and it looks like they are indeed separate fish species, however they sometimes share common names (ex. Goggle-eye)
