Best check you local fisn and game laws.  Spearing freshwater game fish is illegal in many instances.  My best was a 6 foot plus barracuda off and oil rig.

I would think that Spear Fishing in freshwater in Florida would make you a candidate for the Darwin Awards

Why because of alligators?  You do know we have these things in Salt Water called Sharks right?  Not to mention inshore we have Slatwater Crocodiles and Alligators.

You are quite right.
One can do anything one wishes, as long as they are willing to face the consiquences.

Here in TN if you violate game laws you risk forfiture of equipment like guns, fishing equipment, vehicles, including boats and trucks,  loss of privliges to hunting and fishing, lets not forget jail and fines too. If your on fedral land, you can garentee prosicution, and max penalties.

Me being one who plays buy the rules, the fish and game are as much mine as anyones. If I come across someone "stealing" from me buy not fallowing the same game laws as I do, well, I will do everything I can to get you busted PERIOD.  Other than that I mind my own buisness, but like I said, braking game laws is stealing from me, and I dont "let" people do that, so be careful who see's you. being your in FL its kinda flat, you never know whos watching.

I'll just mention too that killing snakes is illegal in most places even poisonous snakes.

I've done a lot of spearfishing in the Gulf and Dry Tortugas but I always thought freshwater was a no-no. Besides, I am not getting in gator infested water.
