Went to beach today for a memorial and saw a lot of these:

Popping up a lot in popularity and i think I'd like to give one a try.  Any advice for a newbie on these?

LOL

I would suggest having a lot of fun on it!    Try it first sitting on it and paddling around.  Do you surf?  if so you won't have any trouble standing up.  If not, just go slow .

You can get on it in shallower water on your knees first using your hands to balance out on the sides of the board (rails they are called).  Then when you stand up do it in a fluid motion - try to center yourself over the balance point when you stand.

Its a lot of fun to  learn and its good for your balance and shoulder, upper arm work out too.

Only other thing I learned was don't lean into your paddle stroke because they rock like a surfboard.  Try to remain straight up and use your arms and paddle length to paddle.   I have fallen off sideways, rolled over backwards and bounced off the rear, fallen forward on the nose and rolled off.  Just don't try to catch yourself once you start going and end up straddling the rails of the board!

Just fall man.  Don't fight it.
