Has anyone caught one? If so what state and what did you do with it? On river monsters it looks like Florida is full of them.

They are supposed to be good eating which is why some Asian dumped them in the pond in the first place.

Yeah but there are a lot of things Asians consider "Good Eating" that I wouldn't touch.

I just watched a video about snake heads from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

The wildlife biologist said that even though they are a disaster for the ecology, for fisherman they may be a blessing in disguise.  They hit any lure, they put up a good fight, they grow fast, they reproduce quickly and they taste great.

This

It's the "Pig Bomb", aquatic version. Blown out of proportion.

They are one nasty looking fish. Apparently they are a big problem in southern MD and northern VA in the Potomac river. I remember a few years ago Bass Pro Shops in Hanover, MD was giving out gift cards if you caught one and brought it in dead. According to wikipedia:
Not only can they breathe atmospheric air, but they can also survive on land for up to four days, provided they are wet, and are known to migrate up to 1/4 mile on wet land to other bodies of water by wriggling with their body and fins.

No thanks, I wont be eating this

I think I would have to shoot that ugly SOB before I tried to get the hook out of it's mouth.

I take anything on Wikipedia with a grain of salt....anyone can edit wiki and it becomes gospel.  I am willing to put money that like any other fish, it can not survive long out of water.  And if it could, the local raccoon populations would have a feast.

If you catch one kill it.
They will destroy the natural balance of your areas system if they get in there.

From my understanding they are vivatious reproducers.

Actually, they are pretty good to eat.
Almost like walleye, light and flaky.
We usually filet them, then chunk them up and roll in Uncle Bucks and deep fry.
Potomac is LOADED with them, seen them to 12lbs.
(they do sometimes get a pretty heavy parasite load, as the yeat a lot of fundulus (bull minnows)
If a big fish, I butterfly the filet, and hold up to the sun to look for any grubs.
Cut out and carry on, same as with yellow perch

Folks scream about them being an invasive that is going to wipe out everything, but hell, most of what is in that area is non native.
Largemouth, channel cats, blue cats, etc, NONE of them are native.
That bunches up the panties of the die-hard BASS anglers.
