Anyone have an idea on how much I should offer for this saw? It is 20+ years old.
My elderly neighbor has it. We have cut wood together for a few years and now he is moving in with his daughter and wont need it. This saw runs like new. Had it serviced and the compresion is great.

He says I can just use it, but I would feel better just buying it from him and he could use the cash.

Any Idea what to offer?

Google has not helped.

A new chain and blade costs $50.00, so offer the old guy a little more for it.

I know this isn't the answer you're asking for but consider it.
He has had this saw for 20 years.
He has cut wood with you for a few years.
He said you can just use it.
If you buy it you are done with him.  Maybe he doesn't want to be done with you yet.

Who wants to be stuck at their daughter's house with no use for a chainsaw?
Use his saw.  But invite him to come over when you do.  Go over an pick him up for lunch.  Take him for a drive.  Take him to the barbershop.  You'll spend more than you'd have ever paid for the chainsaw and eventually it will be yours anyway.  He hooked you up when you needed it now that the shoes on the other foot looking for the right price is thoughtful but wrongheaded. IMHO.

Unless of course he wouldn't like a young friend helping him feel young anymore or he's too far away to visit.  Then give him more than you think it's worth.

My two cents.  Sounds like you met a gem of an old man.
