I'm about to cash out my Christmas club and I'm looking to purchase a bolt gun. I found this savage 10 fcp sr in a review but I can't find it for sale. Any one know if they were discontinued or why? I'll would be open to any suggestion for a 308 bolt gun with a threaded barrel and detachable magazine. I hope to be getting a can next.

What caliber are you looking for?  A 110 would be a long action (30-06, 270, etc).

If I could start all over I would get this rifle and leave it alone... (but it is a .308)

Eta. It was the model 10 I like the one you posted I was just looking at the other model because it came with all the bells and whistles.

I've seen them on Gunbroker. Also a LGS here said they could order one (from their distributor). I think they stopped making them but they're out there. I just bought. 10FP- SR (threaded barrel, blind mag) in .223 at a local store.

I have a FCP-SR in .308 that I'm really considering swapping the barrel out to a 6.5 Creedmoor. I believe they discontinued that model though. Mine has been a good shooter so far.

Yes, the 10FCP-SR was discontinued for 2014.  It was in the LE section on the Savage website.  I got one in the summer of 2013 and am very glad I did.  It may be possible to find one that was never sold.  They went for just under $1000.

Exactly what bells and whistles are you talking about?? The new Model 10 Precision Carbine has all the bells and whistles already. If you are referring to utilizing the AI type magazines, that is about the only difference. You can still get higher capacity magazines for the standard Model 10. Also, the 10PC is a MUCH more easily handled rifle than the 10FCP. Your dime, your time, just not sure what the deciding factor is...

The bells and whistles would be an already mounted scope retail and 10round magazines. I did not know you could get larger capacity factory magazines. Also the acu digital stock is ugly

It most decidedly is. That's why I painted  mine!

ETA: mine came with a scope rail already on the rifle too.

The stock is dipped in desert digital camo.  If you try to remove the red Indian Savage sticker, it will peel off the digital dipped camo.  Ask me how I know.
Savage did send me a replacement without a sticker.  Otherwise, it is ok.  I'll upgrade it some day.  It is an Accustock.

GET BOTH

Seriously.  FCP-SR for the range.  Mine eats SMKs.  50mm Millett.  I call it the Whopper.

The 10PC is my hunting and go-to precision rifle.  SWFA fixed 6.  A few pounds lighter as configured.  The Whopper Jr.

What are you planning on using the rifle for? I usually grab the 10PC or even my 10P before the FCP, they are much more handy.  The FCP is great for stationary prone  or bench shooting, but not for lugging around all day.

What are you planning to use it for?

Take a look at the Tikka CTR (hate to sound like a broken record) it fits your bill and has all of the "bells and whistles" you mentioned. I have one and have nothing but praise for it so far. It's pretty similar to the Savage Precision Carbine set up from the looks of it.

I've heard a lot of good things said about savage rifles so I'm sure you couldn't go wrong with either. That digital camo stock isn't exactly my cup of tea though, but cosmetics rarely influence my purchases.

Let us know what you get

Tikka CTR

I ended up buying...... A springfield 1911 trp operator got a steal of a deal I couldn't pass up.  For Now my research into rifles will continue. Thanks for all your input so far, I was looking to add a bolt gun to my collection for general tom foolery. I would hunt with it I would also shoot targets with it, however it would not see any sniper missions or zombie outbreaks or emp attacks. I just like guns and would eventually get a can for it.

ETA flood came and washed my gun safe out to sea all guns and ammo lost.

Anyone know if this rifle is still discontinued? Im finding them with the same fcp-sr name with same specs but it just has a black stock instead of the camo.  And its like 300$ cheaper than it used to be.

Look half way down the page to the FCP SR vs AR10 comparison.

The new Savages have been cheapened considerably.

They are in the Savage lineup for 2015. Apparently they have changed the magazine system a bit and now include an Accustock. I ordered one but don't have it yet. The reviews I've read so far have been filed with complaints about the magazine and loose threads on the barrel. I'll form my own opinion when I receive mine. I'm not thrilled that Savage and Remington both appear to be letting the quality of their firearms deteriorate. I did a lot of research before making the purchase but am now wondering if I should have went with the Remington 700 aac sd instead.

From what i read aics mags fit tighter in them. Havent read anything about other quality issues. I have a brand new rem 700 sps tac 20 in, non threaded that is 3 years old and hasnt had a round chambered. Wanted to sell it for a 24in gun to get a little extra velocity for 1000 yards. Ive got a ar10t 20inch that makes my remington redundant. Ive got a dealer close to me with one in stock and im trying to work a trade right now
