I always wanted a .223 bolt gun but really never got serious about getting one. Always seemed to spend the money on other gun stuff.
I came upon a 700P LTR .223 today - new for $699. Cheapest I have ever seen this rifle. Is this the going price for these now? Am I missing something? I already have a 308 LTR which I like a lot. But this seemed like such a great price it is really hard to pass it up. EDIT-This is a standard LTR with the H-S Precession stock not one of the dealer specials in the plastic stocks that I have seen before. |

OK...I have several Remington 700 Varmint Rifles (26" heavy barrel) , one is in .223 and I love it. That being said, IF you want to try things out on the CHEAP, I was just at a Grand Opening of a Gander Mountain Store in El Paso, and saw on the "mark down table" a BULL BARREL Savage Axis (all factory) in .223 for the price of $313.00. The Axis is not a bad rifle, I have one in 22-250 reg barrel that I use for a behind the seat gun. (I live out west)
As far as what you saw, I'd say you were missing something, as an H-S precision stock goes for a minimum of $350.00 (I know, I just put one on my Remmy 700 in 308.) The H-S Precision has a full length aluminum bedding insert in it. You know better than I, but what you may have seen was a 700 in a Hogue Stock (aluminum pillars only). Remington normally uses those stocks for the rifles. Happy Trails and great shooting! |

I know the difference between a Hogue stock and a H-S Precision. This was not a 700 SPS tac model. It was a full 100% LTR model. The only thing I can figure is the dealer had miss priced it but I did find one on GB for the same price. I was wondering if Remington was discontinuing these or something. This is the kind of pricing I see when companies are dumping their old inventory. |
