I don't even know where that is. I guess its nowhere near SE AZ. m4whore

Its west of Phoenix, south of I-10 and NW of Maricopa.
It's kind of an oddity. There's a lot of wilderness (BLM Wilderness) out there and its just a few miles from downtown Phoenix. Very un-visited. |

Had a good time and tested alot of gear out for our next trip. Got our butts chewed for camping outside of campsites though, more becouse they didnt know where we were. http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/8007/dcp1580.jpg http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/8864/dcp1593.jpg http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/8086/dcp1484.jpg These are from the best trip I was ever on. Its a boat in site up by Alpena. Noone around for miles and completely isolated. We power boated in so we were able to pack a little heavy and it was a good thing too. We burned a ton of calories during the day hiking, fishing and with camp chores. We were there for 5 days and it took us a day and a half to set up a very efficient camp that was well organized and weather proof and had firewood for the week. Fishing was a bit of a bust with me only catching 4 or 5 sunfish. But we did critque our gear and now have a line up that works well and packs down nice. Where at? I am from Gaylord... Looks like a great spot! Pasthfinder |

Looks like a great spot! Pasthfinder The boat in site is of Cooke Dam. Awesome place to camp if you get to the more secluded spots. Theres an Island with a camp site on it too. We were just across form it but popped over to the island and hung out for the afternoon. I can get you the camp site number I think. Im pretty sure I still have that info saved in my favorites |

Most of those are the Mojave Road (central) which takes about three days to drive from outside of Barstow into Nevada. The central and eastern portions are the most fun. The last two pictures were the southern end of the Sierras. California has some sucky gun laws - I'm pre-ban on all of them - but some of the best off-road and camping to be had. There's everything from Glamis Dunes, to the redwoods, to the best fly fishing in the world, to the highest and lowest geography in the nation. |

Paul, I was looking at your pics thinking to myself "How come a state with so much to offer has such shitty gun laws?" What a shame! |

I am not familiar with any aspects of that shelter except it is named the Icewater Shelter because it has a spring about 95 paces from the shelter and the water is 'ice' cold. This shelter is on the AT in the Great Smoky Mountains 2.7 miles from Newfound Gap Parking Lot. My night there was cold b/c I had a 40 degree bag in 20-25 degree temps. Is this the shelter you were referring to?

Why thank you check out another one Oh, and in the first pic the further tent..that was the "shower tent" it had a shower head, a 12 volt pump, and a alligator clips that ran outside so you parked a vehicle beside the tent, and took a bucket of warm water in with you. It was wonderful to get a real and hot shower when you're in for more than a couple of days at a time. |

Tyler, great pics. What's your pack?
I camped last weekend, a little too cold for the hammock I was in, but it was great listening to the coyotes as I shivered in my bag..... |
