I am going to make my own water filter for home. I am going to use berkey elements but want to add a sand and charcoal chamber to the systems. I have very hard water and think this will extend the berkey element life. What kind of charcoal do I use? Where can I get it? Thanks for any help.

fish stores and pet stores will often sell it in bulk. Might want to look online for better prices though as they tend to mark everything way up at pet type stores

I get mine at Petco, but any pet store that has fish should have it.
