We have a pretty good 3-6 month storage of canned goods that we regularly rotate. We plan on moving locally within a year. My wife suggested we use up the food storage so we do not have to move them (we have long term #10 cans we will not touch). We could honestly live without going to the store for months.
I feel very uneasy about using it up. I would rather break my back packing this up than use up the FS. Any thoughts? |

| Most stuff in general is going to be pretty expensive to replace now, depending on when you bought it, and it isn't likely to get any better. And for that matter, food prices where you're going may be quite a bit higher, even from one side of town to the other. |
If it is a local move, U-Haul will rent you a truck for $29 a day + mileage (I think there is a 30 mile allowance for local moves). Seems to me that this with a little sweat equity would be a lot cheaper than replacing ones food preps. Are you going to shoot up all your ammo as well?
Just my $.02. stasiman |
| ^^^ all of this, think, when you first move into a new place you are the most vulnerable. Think of the book deep winter... the neighbors behind the Drummonds. Just moved into their place when the incident occured... what did they have. Nothing. I would keep and transport for this reason alone. |
