I've been thinking about picking up one of those silk sleeping bag liners for use in my hammock.

I do that. My wife and I carry microfleece sleeping bag liners as our bags when we hike in the summer. Just warm enough to keep away a late night chill, but not bulky and not hot.

I am meeting my two brothers for a hike on the AT in SW Virginia next week.  We are not taking sleeping bags at all.  Two nylon tarps, ground cloth, Thermarest pads.  Dat's it.

I use the same bag liner. It can get a little annoying depending on how static you are, but is great in warm weather.

Those things are awesome.

i bring them while traveling as well in case the hotel is sketchy and I'm too tired to get another one.

No kidding.

Upper 40s and low 50s here overnight.

But I bet that bag would be great for an afternoon nap in the tent today or as a blanket for the deck lounge chair to keep the breeze off.

Silk must be great for compressibility and not needing to be stored loose though.

Didn't mean to mislead you. I'm taking my little  2 (something)  lb tarp tent, of course, but no real sleeping bag.

My "warmest" weather bag is a 30*. It's small and light, but no way could I sleep in it in this weather.

I have a Tarptent Rainbow as well.  Awesome little tents, aren't they?

I'm there with you; this last weekend camping was so muggy, even having a bag under you for padding was too much.  On top of that, it rained just enough to neccessitate (sp?) putting the rain fly on and tadahh...instant oven.  I'm not clausterphobic (again, ? spelling),but it got pretty stuffy in there.  As soon as it stopped raining, the fly came off and I got some sleep.

I tend to gear our major sleeping bags towards cold weather since cold is our main concern survival wise 7 months out of the year here in central WI.  For summer fun camping, one bedsheet does the job.

Something about the combination of your avatar and silk makes me want to....   lock my doors at night

I hear those silk liners are nice.  Let us know how it goes.
