Anybody have the surefire settings to talk to an FT-450D via RS-232?

I've tried FTDI adapters w/latest drivers and Prolific adapters.

I've tried on Vista, Win7, Win8.1.

I've tried various bit rates with 8N1, 8N2, always matching the app (Yaesu's, & others) with the port settings and xceiver parameters.

Supposed settings/solutions found via google do not work for me.

Does anyone else have theirs working?

Adapter connected to the radio directly or through a db9 <> db9 cable?

8N1 is correct.  You probably need a null modem adapter and a gender bender.

Setup is as follows:

PC -> USB/RS-232 Cable -> Gender Bender -> Std DB-9 Cable -> FT-450D

I just tried inserting a NULL adapter as follows:

PC -> USB/RS-232 Cable -> NULL Adapter -> Gender Bender -> Std DB-9 Cable -> FT-450D

Still no luck. (I did try a NULL earlier and had read not to use NULL, but why not try again?)

Not sure why, but this forced me to question the extra DB-9/DB-9 cable I was using. I removed it and all is working now. I make a point to clearly mark my NULL cables if they aren't already marked. I'll have to ring this one out to see what's up.

Now as follows:

PC -> USB/RS-232 (FTDI) -> Gender Bender -> FT-450D

4800 8N1 - all typical settings - nothing unusual. I assume I'll be able to bump up to 38400.

Thanks!

It does NOT NEED A NULL modem adaptor, but does need a gender bender in a lot of applications.

Look in the menu under option CATRATE and set it with the proper speed you are trying to communicate. I have mine set at 4800.

Nice pics - thanks.

I cranked it up from 4800 to 38400 and it's A-Ok.
