Anyone have a copy or know where I can find one cheaper than $40?
ETA: Would like to make my own cable as well. I have the radio/mic cord schematic, how do I convert that to a USB or serial connector?

This is EXCELLENT.  I use G4HFQ's software with my FT1802M and FT2800M's.

http://www.g4hfq.co.uk/ftb19002900.htm

This software also makes it easy to save the programming, change it, reload it, transfer it to a different radio.

ETA:  This is just $15.00 USD.

Find the correct cable here:

http://stores.ebay.com/KAWAMALL-RAD

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120758057628    CT-29F is the correct cable for FT-1802M, FT-1900R, FT-2800M, FT2900R

This is what it looks like when it opens, like an Excell spreadsheet.  Clicking on the various cells will open drop down menus.

Making your own cable... here's the pinout on the mic, scroll down the page a bit:

http://www.g4hfq.co.uk/links.html

The problem is, the USB chip for the adapter has to have the right voltage output, and some don't.  It can cause problems.  Best I can say is just buy a cable.

But there are some articles linked on that page on how to roll your own.  The cable for the FT-1802M, FT-1900R, FT-2800M, and FT-2900R are all the same.  You will see some info on converting to USB for the 1802, that's the one you want.

I had emailed G4HFQ about problems I was having and he CALLED me International from the UK to the USA and talked me through it.  It was a matter of selecting the correct Com Port in one of the menus.  Now THAT's customer service!

Thanks AFM! great price on the software! The cable I wanted to take a shot at myself just to see if I could do it. Since I got into HAM a few months ago my interest in circuits and wiring went up a few notches. I mess around with low voltage circuits for a living and it has always interested me, but with this new hobby there is this whole new world of solid state circuits and pcb's that I have never thought twice about. I am an eternal learner, if I'm not learning something new...I'm not happy.

I think you'll save a lot of grief if you just buy the CT-29F cable.

When you hook this up, look in your computer's Device Manager and see which port the CT-29F is connected to.

The go to the program, click Settings (I think) at the top, and in there select that port you found in Device Manager.

Make sure you plug the cable into the same USB port each time.

Thanks.  I went through the com port fiasco with the HX370 software (or was it the wouxun? I can't remember.) My pc didn't like using the same usb port for different com ports, and both cables/software didn't like the ports my pc said were available, I had to switch the cable around to different usb ports till I found one that worked.

In these programs there is a place to tell the computer which port to use.
