I'm in a bit of a situation with soundmodem. If I setup everything at my base station (ts-2000, linux laptop, external sound card, donner interface) to do APRS I can TX packets. I can verify they are sent because it shows up on APRS.fi but I cannot receive any packets. I can hear them at s7-9 but it doesn't show up. If I send packets with my th72 they show up so I know that it can receive.

I'm lost so any help would be great

What is "it", the 2000?

ETA:  Is the volume on the 2000 turned down too low?  Is the 2000 set for split VFO?

Yes the it is the 2000.

Ill try playing with the vfo thing, I hadn't thought about that. Its not mentioned in the manual that I can see but that doesn't mean much. I guess the reason my ht is decoded is because of proximity but idk

So I am still not 100% sure what the problem is. I found out how to get the internal tnc to work directly with xastir so I ditched soundmodem and used a tnc (I still use soundmodem for my HT/Netbook setup with no problems)

I can still communicated back and forth with my TH-72 but can't get anything else. I am still getting out, 100miles one time

I found this on the aprs.org site

FIX YOUR ANTENNA FIRST: If you are seeing good "S" meter signals on APRS but not decoding every packet, then you are hearing collisions from two or more local digi's. The APRS network is a contention based system and so the best base-station antenna is often not a high omni. It is one that is placed such that it hears all local digis but with at least a 10 dB different signal between them. This assures that one will always win in a collision, and you wont miss any packets. read about APRS antennas.

Which makes sense, so I turned my power down low with hopes of only getting a packet to the nearest digipeter but still didn't work

Fixed it.

Soundmodem has a transfer rate of 9600 to the computer. I guess its hbaud and gbaud. I changed my radio to accept 9600 baud and now its on the air.

as of now I am getting stations from as far south as Florida.
