would you all pick an AK over an AR or visa versa
what kind of sidearm would you choose |

Pick what you can shoot best with and buy parts for that weapon!

Wife and I both carry Beretta 92s and ARs for bugout purposes along with a 10/22 and a Buckmark pistol which share a Gemtech suppressor (for when you need to reach out and slap something quietly)....Other guns added if vehicle is an option..
I own 2 AKs but would not be taking them for a bugout... |

Pick one. Train. Get ammo. Train. Buy spare magazines. Train. Buy spare parts. Train. Repeat. Did I mention to train? Regards, LABlackRifle |

If it happened today I'd have my AR and 1911, but like others have said- whatever you shoot best and are comfortable with.

You know latley I've been ask'in myself the same question.
I'm also wondering if I should use 9mm or 45acp? And how much ammo do I need? I know that depends on how many ammo cans I have, but still, how much? What color camo goes with grey socks? Theres something else I was wondering, but cant remember, I need to check my list... (yea, I know, that aint necessary, but I couldnt help myself) |

AR and Glock 17. First post FTW. I also would've accepted "AR and Glock 19" |

I feel that 9mmNATO is adquate because during a SHtF scenario you should be trying to avoid any confrontation with an adversary. Most likely you will be having your loved ones in tow, and you don't want to put them in harm's way. For SHtF, and you have to hump the ammo, I would pick 9mmNATO and 5.56NATO for the fact that you can get more shots.

for feeding yourself .... a plain ole 12 gauge with a mod choked field barrel will get ya small game , birds , deer , hogs and what not.
Just remember when shooting slugs from a smooth bore buy rifled slugs NOT sabots and no you dont need a rifled slug barrel. U can get cheap shotgun shells by the case if you shop around as well as cheap buck shot and slugs too |

Allways about the guns I guess food and water, and gardening tools, and non-hybrid seeds, and spare shoes and clothes, and stuff like that just aren't exciting enough......until you need them and don't have them that is. |

This is a tough one, I have thought about this a lot. I just picked up a S&W 25-5. .45 Colt has been around a long time. It is accurate, can be 90% of the power as a .44 Magnum. I have a winchester lever rifle to go with it and lots of ammo, It also reloads easy.

Hi Point .380 and a single shot .410 shotgun.
Oh, and three packs of "Bazooka" bubble gum. Actually, my SHTF firearms will be whatever is closest. |

I'd carry my AR and G17, plus throw my S&W .357 with a box of ammo in my pack. If vehicle travel is possible then the 12G Mossberg comes as well. |

Another AR-15 & Glock 17 Supporter here.
Throw in a Mossberg 930SPX for good measure... |

It doesn't matter what you pick. Just make sure you're wearing multicam and you're good to go.

This is coming up more and more these days. This post needs a poll added, and then tacked to the top.
For me and mine, we have AR-15s and 9mm pistols. |

Man Portable Mini Gun in 7.62 mm just like Jessie Ventura used in the first Predator.
I don't have time to bleed..... |
|
I'm going to have a mostly BCM Middy AR with a 92FS and a shit load of mags and ammo for both. If I'm on the move, then someone I love around me will be carrying a shotgun and Sig 226, with a shitload of ammo.

For me 16inch Middy AR, and Glock 21 45ACP. After 12 years in the infantry the AR is what feels best to me.
Now as to what you should choose. 1. The weapons you are best with. 2. Buy AMMO and parts. 3.Train. If you are not an expert with your weapon you will not survive. Period. You are only fooling yourself. Avoid contact if at all possible, the goal is to survive not fight the Next American Revolution. Spend most of your money on Food and other preps. Fire fights are short and probably be at close quarters. If you survive you get their weapons and ammo. If not...............best to avoid contact. Rember your weapon is a tool that your life depends on. How much is your life worth????? YMMV 1-179th INF |
