Any info on the .40 in the new catalog?
I have the cash on hand and I am patiently waiting to order one.

The .40 isn't in the new catalog, yet.
We're learning some lessons fromthe 308 and 458, and are trying not to catalog that isn't/isn't going to be immediately available.  We need to get those projects going full speed before we bring one out that isn't already in "the book".  .40 and 6.8 will be next.

Steve,

I am the proud owne rof over 12 RRA products, 1911's and AR's....I have not visited a while and would like to know what is the shipping status of the .308, I have talked to the order folks there (great people) about getting on the list for a .308 and was wondering when they will ship.

Second, this is the first I have heard of a .40??? Is this for real and if so, whwn do you think, realisticly, they will ship.  I was looking to get a 9mm, but I will wait for a .40.

What magazines will they take

Still hoping for early fall onthe first .308s.Thre really is no waiting list except for those dealers who have pre-ordered, and a few whojust want to be called when it is in production (but that will put them down the list in terms of order fulfillment at that point).
We showed a .40 at the SHOT Show last February.  It's goign to be one of the next releases after .308 and .458.  Anticipating possibly SHOT '07ish. Probably 6.8SPC around the same time, as well as our usual pile of new accessories.  We've had several of the .40s shooting, but we're waiting on purpose built proprietary mags before the project will movea whole lot further...28rds is anticipated caoacity.

I am impatiently waiting for the .40.  I must admit that I am finding it hard to wait when there is a 9mm out, but I then think o how I love that .40 round and decide to wait.

Will .40 cal ever be produced in a 7" pistol by RRA?
8/22/2006 10:21:52 AM EDT
[#8]
We showed either a 7" or 10.5" at SHOT '06 (I don't remember which).
When .40 does release, I expect both LAR-15 rifles and pistols.

Initially we said END OF THE YEAR...and that's still probably the case.  At the earliest, look for the .40s in 2007 catalog to be released at the SHOT Show in January.

This sounds very exciting! Perhaps a .45ACP not too much farther down the road =)

Are you guys planning on doing this as an upper / mag block set up available for regular 5.56 rifles, or as a dedicated lower/upper rifle?

Basically if I do a form 1 on my bushmaster lower, should I expect to be able to use that same lower with the .40 upper? Will I need to change buffers or hammers like I’ve been told I would with a 9mm setup?

Also, while you’re at it, how about some .357sig barrels =)

I've got 3 fresh cases of .357sig begging to be fed through an AR15 based system
9/15/2006 4:43:14 AM EDT
[#19]
Mechanically, the .40 should be almost identical (except for caliber specific components) to the 9mm sytem.  Mag block, hammer, buffer, etc...
No .45 ACP on the immediate horizon.
Let us get the .40 going before we talk .357 SIG (which may still be something for the one-off builders rather than us).

Just wondering why people like handgun cartridged in a rifle??

Is it true they are less powerful and less accurate than a rifle cartridge?

I guess if you carry a handgun in the same caliber it would be all the same but
I reallly don't understand.

What are some advantages of handgun cartridges in a rifle?

Not trying to get flamed, just am interested. Although, then I may have to buy one myself....more money

Frank,
Reasons to go with hangun caliber AR-style rifles:
Caliber compatibility with the side arm is one reason.
Ammo price, availanbility, and selection is another.
Defensibility in court is one for those who might have to use theirs for non-range use...it's harder to convince a jury of what a terrible menace theshooter was when he was using the standard-issue police handgun round versus some "super-powered assault rifle" round.
Also, for a lot of us in locations that have extreme climates (hot/cold/snow etc...), outdoor range use is limited by the elements, and most indoor ranges don't allow rifle calibers...but 9mm and 40S&W are handgun calibers and acceptable on most such ranges.
Last (that I can come up with off the top of my head), but certainly not least, they're fun.

Will this be a pistol caliber rifle with a full stock or a ar pistol with no stock and special paperwork.  If it is a rifle like the 9MM1296X www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=9MM1296X&storeid=1&image=069mida24.gif&CFID=7812471&CFTOKEN=30561019 then I am game. If it turns out to be similar to 9MM2115X www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=9MM2115X&storeid=1&image=larp9mm.gif&CFID=7812471&CFTOKEN=30561019  then I am screwed due to MD law.

I would actually really like to know how well .40 and .357sig do out of 10.5" and 16" AR15 based systems

I've got lots of .357sig sitting here

Maelstrom,
Looks like we'll do rifles and AR-style pistols.  You'll still be stuck with whatever low-capacity mag we can come up with for shooters in states with restrictions, but the weapons will be available in pretty much the same configurations as the 9mms.

I also snubbed the pistol caliber AR's at first.  Then  a buddy of mine bought an RRA 9MM and put a Burris XTS dot sight on it.  We were out shooting steel plates with our Glocks one afternoon and he handed me the RRA 9MM, WOW!!! I didn't want to give it back.  There is a local gun club who hosts steel plate shoots once a month from March through December.  They allow pistol caliber carbines on the handgun courses, I am sold on the 9MM AR's, an RRA 9MM A4 is going to be mine within the next few weeks.

Since other people have asked about other guns, is there a way we can get a peek at the .40 S&W an an update?
9/28/2006 12:50:10 PM EDT
[#28]
Externally it looks identical to the 9mm.  Just gonna have a bigger bore and a different muzzle thread so you can't put a 9mm muzzle device on it and have a less than desirable outcome.
When we showed the 9mm LAR pistol at the SHOT Show in February, we found that we had to tell people that it was a .40 who had casually glanced at the pistol without looking at the plaque and dicounted it as "just another 9mm".  Then it got handled quite a bit.

Looking for information on your 6.8, understand there have been and still are problems with this round, for example several rifles I almost bought cannot handle the SSA combat round.

Do you know if you upcoming 6.8 will be able to handle this round? I very much like your rifles, and am looking forward to this one.

Off topic a bit in a thread on .40S&W but....
Don't know about the SSA "combat loads"...haven't seen any or know anyone who has them.  We've been test-firing with (mostly) SSA std loads as well as some Remington and Hornady factory loads. I might have to make another call to Nevada.

No worries mate.  I'm stuck here in MD as well.

Just grab yourself a extra AR lower, and wait.  Build it into what ever you want as long as you have the lower.

Mags don't matter, it's a short trip to VA or PA for full cap mags.  There's no law saying we can't drive home with the mags.

We can't have the pistols here in MD but the Form 1 is only an additional $200 and a month wait if you want to get a SBR.

I'll be buying one in what ever form it comes in.

I would like to see a factory SBR option (10.5" ), buy I doubt that would be a hot seller for RRA.  OH well, that's why the Ar's are so great, easily modified!
