The VMX3 has eye relief of 50mm and that gives your the Full Field of View at that maximum eye relief. Some lesser magnifiers will list eye relief at "such and such," but fail to mention that the farther away your eye gets the narrower the field of view. To Vortex's credit the 50mm eye relief is full field of view as it should be.
The Aimpoint 3xMag list 60-65mm maximum eye relief for full field of view. The VMX3 does beat the EOTech Magnifier in eye relief, but apparently the Aimpoint gives slightly more and remains the 3xmag with the most eye relief. Of course, with the Aimpoint you're paying a small fortue for that extra 10 or 15mm of eye relief. |

Just to verify, the VMX3 will work in a LaRue LT-649 tall flip to side mount, correct? |

Will the VMX3 fit and flip over a Magpul MBUS in a LaRue Tall FTS mount? And is there any plan to shrink that rubber armor down on a future revision? Also wondering if it's possible to make a 4X with the same diameter tube end as the 3X so it can be used with the LaRue mount.

I believe, for the money, it cant be beat. Scott Aside from the alignment adjustment screws, is the tube all the way under the rubber sleeve the same diameter as the visible part of the tube? I was thinking of clamping the magnifier gently by the rubber in a bench vise and shaving it down with a wood plane. Not really sure how it would bite into the rubber, but I'd probably know pretty quick if it would cut smoothly.  Seriously though.

what rear sights will fit under it? and is it possible to trim the rubber down? with out doing damage to the scope?
i know it would prob void warranty but am curious if it is possible? |

I probably shouldnt say this but yes you can trim the bottom of the rubber. Here is an example of how we tried it. If you do it make sure you dont go all the way to the edge of the rubber, otherwise it will totally come off. You may want to lift the edges(where you cut it at) and put a little glue in there.

I REALLY appreciate your openness on the subject. Is the result of this that it does now clear an MBUS and swing freely in a LaRue tall pivot mount? Just to make sure I'm getting this, a wider area of the tube is what's showing in that "window" in the rubber? Also, no guarantees inferred here, but do you have a suggestion of an appropriate glue for those materials considering typical seasonal temperature fluctuations in a cruiser trunk? Feel free to say "no clue." Again, awesome. |
