I purchased a Colt M4 upper receiver from the EE last year (no barrel or BCG) and recently installed it on a 6920 lower receiver.  I was surprised to notice the difference in color between the upper and lower receivers.  I haven't noticed this particular tint on any of the Government issued M4s, but then I haven't really looked that closely to be honest.  It's definitely different then the grayish finish found on Match Targets.  Do any of you Colt gurus have any information as to when and for whom Colt produced upper M4 upper receivers with the "dark purplish" tint?

(Keep in mind the flash from my camera really highlights the difference in the color.  It's not really that pronounced under sunlight or normal indoor lighting.)

That purple is pretty bad ass . I know it's not the same, but a buddy of mine has a Noveske N4, and the RIS (Noveske RIS) looks purple just like your upper when he takes flash photos of it.

I remember getting a shipment of LE6933's and R0933's in 2005 for Patrol and SWAT. Several of the lowers were the same purple as your upper.  It happens.  I wonder when yours was made.

Old bushmasters had that color for a while... latest color like that I saw was in the EE with an SI defense upper.

 I'm wondering the same thing.

The only marks on the upper are the stamped "C", the keyhole, and "M4" just above the gas tube.

The upper receiver was basically new in a clear plastic wrapper when I purchased it.  I swapped it with the A2 upper receiver on my MT6601C.

Of course then I felt sorry for that lonely unused MT6601 A2 upper receiver and purchased all of the necessary Colt components to "rebuild" it.  A 6920 lower receiver went under the M4 upper.  The MT6601 lower was reunited with its factory A2 upper after a new take off pre-ban MT6700 barrel had been installed.  Throw in a FA Colt BCG to the mix and suddenly there are A2 and A4 configured Colts in the safe.

Damn BRD.
