I've been looking longingly at Bushmaster's new .308 for a while now, and with the AWB gone, it seems like the opportune time to get going on it. But, I'm fairly particular about what I want, and what I want to do with the rifle with my name on it.
Now, before we go into the specifics of my shopping list here, I know already that Bushy's going to be up to their optics just trying to get done with big orders for distributors. That's no problem at all. This is definitely a "when things settle down a bit" project. I just want to have all of my info-ducks in a row.
This is where I'd like to go with it:
* Floated barrel
* Chromed barrel
* A3 style
* Harris bipod mount
* 2-stage trigger of good quality (I hear Jewell is nice, right?)
* Gemtech (or other brand) bi-lock mount w/flash suppressor or brake (for taking advantage of later!!)
* A good scope for use from 100 - ? yards
* A bayonet lug, just
I figure the barrel itself is going to be pretty much whatever Bushy has in stock, which is fine. Not a big deal.
If the barrel & nut is compatible with standard float tube, that should be no problem. If it's not, then I need to know if Bushmaster is going to make floats for their .308. I'm not picky at this point about the foregrip configuration (standard, railed, whatever... open to suggestions).
The flash suppressor or brake with the bi-lock is a sticky wicket. I need to know what the threading is. I've got an email out to Gemtech, asking them about the availability and compatibility with this rifle.
The trigger should be no problem, if it's the same parts in the same places and sizes as the .223 models. If it is reconfigured, then I'm stuck on that for a while.
I don't know much about scopes, so I'm wide open to suggestions.
If anybody (especially our Bushmaster correspondent!) has any information they can share, that would be great!
