This is our new LE focused GLX 2X. Our new daylight bright illumination technology, new mount design and auto on auto off. 5.56 and 7.62 ACSS reticles

PA was kind enough to send me a prototype 2x Prism sight.
First thoughts: It's almost as small as my TA45 ACOG and almost as light. Much better compared to the old 2.5x Prism that I bought and sold. It seems very durable. I like the dual screw, single bar, clamping mount, that is FREE OF PROTRUDING KNOBS (thank you!). It came with three different mount height inserts meaning that there are 4 different height options.  Eye relief is a bit short for me, but I had to adjust the diopter several full rotations to get the reticle in focus, so that may change it for me  The reticle is a bold horseshoe with a center chevron, and then two bullet drop dots which I assume are 300 and 400 yards. Ranging bars are then below this, but are not shooting holds. The Horseshoe of the reticle is big and easily seen. the center cevron and ranging stadia are still small, but that's okay. I got the diopter adjusted and the reticle is very crisp, including the fine chevron and drop dots. This blurry picture is the best I could do indoors, but it shows the proper ratio of reticle size to tube size. this is actually how big the reticle looks through the tube in person. Again, it is sharply focused when the diopter is adjusted and my phone camera is stupid and does not know what i want to focus on.  The reticle is daylight bright at full power. Here is a shot from the inside of my house to my sunny florida yard. Only the horseshoe and chevron light up. 
 I zeroed it an inch low at 25 yards at a local indoor range and then took it to a 3-gun match on Saturday and did well, placing 6th out of 30. Where most people choked was at the 300 yard line. We were shooting at white steel torso and head silhouettes and one 8 inch circular gong. Lots of folks could not even see the small gong, or chased it with lots of wasted shots. With the 2x, seeing and hitting the torso plates was very easy. I took a few shots to find the hold on the 8 inch plate-just under the chevron, but then was able to drill it easily. I was using Wolf Gold ammunition. The glass is very clear. This equates to head shots at 300 yards. However, on the close quarters stages, when the targets were 10 yards or closer I was a bit disoriented with the 2x power, not as fast as with a simple red dot. maybe that's my non-stereo eyes or something that I could overcome with training. Here's my TA45 and PA2x mounted to the same rifle. The eye relief in the ACOG is very generous compared to the PA2x, BUT- the PA2x has an adjustable diopter and my eyes are bad enough I had to spin the diopter adjustment more than a complete full turn to get the reticle in focus, something I CAN'T do the the ACOG. I don't know if that far of an adjustment changes the eye relief. So the eye relief on MY properly adjusted PA2x may be much shorter than standard.

Optic comes with 3 different risers. I used the middle one for my mount. Small one shown alongside
blurry quick phone pic  There's probably room to use the small riser to get it down lower. The riser is solid, you can't use the iron sights like an AGOG. but the ACOG is a one piece riser machined into the base of the optic with no height adjustability.

Update: I had the 2x out today and compared it side by side with the 1.5x ACOG.
Rifle is a 14.5 lightweight barrel and I used Wolf 55 gold and Magtech 77 OTM ammo. 
The target was a 12 inch steel gong painted orange at 330 yards. I shot prone off the bag you see in the picture. I tried first with the ACOG and failed. The reticle is the amber triangle and, one: I couldn't make out the target that well, it was too small at 1.5x, two: I had no idea where the holdover was for the distance. The triangle reticle completely covered the gong. three: the amber color interfered with my sight picture. I held my hand over the fiber optic to make the triangle black, then I could at least see some contrast. I shot about 10 rounds around the area trying to get a feel for where the hold should be located and then quit. The 2x prism was another story. I could easily make out the target. Just the extra half power made the difference. The black reticle was clearly seen and after a few rounds I was making hits. The initial zero was too high and I had to hold the chevron right on the target. I did not put the ACOG back on the rifle when I was finished. It wears the PA2x now. I didn't have enough daylight to get a picture through the scope, nor did I have enough time to really look at the optical clarity through both the 2x and the ACOG. I'll save those for another time. CORRECTION: I did not have a manual and assumed the drop dots were 300 and 400. they are NOT. now that I see a manual, the drop dots are for 400 and 500 yards. the 300 hold is on the bottom feet of the chevron, which was where I needed to hold to begin with

If I can justify the cost I'll get one and do a review once they're available. I think this could be a good option on my WWSD build. A regular scope, even a 1-6 or 1-8, is not the right choice unless you NEED the higher magnification. But a pure red dot setup is so limited as the range opens up. I've been looking for something along these lines but the older prisms were heavy and bulky. I'd considered an ACOG but they've never really done it for me.
Lol. My review of the Glx 2.5-10 is still the most popular video I've done by far, so maybe lightning will strike twice. |
