Okay, I just went outside at dusk and took these pictures
Note the field of view (side to side breadth) of the 2.0x PA v the 1.5x ACOG. It deceptively looks like the ACOG has more magnification, but it doesn't. The 2.0x PA shows a much larger view AND has slightly more magnification. The ACOG field of view feels very tight by comparison. The image on the ACOG photograph is not as clear as the PA because the sun was setting and I took the ACOG picture last. I will try to get some photographs that show the clarity of the two optics during full daylight. Also note how large the horseshoe is compared to the full circular field of view. It is not tiny at all, which was my primary complaint of the Cyclops. Etched reticle, adjustable diopter, bight illumination, great glass. I think this optic is a winner |

I took the PA 2x and the TA-45 1.5x ACOG out in the bright Florida sunshine this afternoon and looked around the neighborhood with both of them. I put them on the top of a stool on my sidewalk, sat down behind them, and looked through them side by side. As seen previously, the TA-45s field of view was smaller than the PA 2x, despite the PA having more magnification. And honestly, I could perceive no advantage in image clarity in the ACOG. The PA's image was just as vivid and sharp. The test I used was trying to read street signs and license plates at the extreme edge of resolution, and in my opinion, it's resolution that matters more than magnification. The PA glass seems exceptionally good and I would say its a tie. The objective lens appears to be the same size on both of them, so there's no advantage of having a bigger aperture.
I then turned the brightness level up to 11 on the PA2x and tried to find a spot in the neighborhood that was so bright that the reticle washed out. I could not find one. I even pointed it at the brightest-lit cloud in the sunny sky, and the reticle was still clearly seen. I would say it's daylight bright. Here is an extreme close-up crop of the reticle today. The stop sign is a measured 200 yards away. I could clearly resolve the chevron tip when placed inside the "O" of the word STOP on the sign, meaning that if I were shooting, I could see clearly enough to place rounds in the center of the O at 200 yards. Keep in mind this is a cell phone picture taken through the optic. I'm very impressed.

I think this optic is a winner Also a 4x prism in the GLx line with the the acss reticle from the 5x slx prism would be awesome to see. |

Ok, I give up. Putting in a pre-order. The resolution, chevron/donut sizing and field of view just tick all the boxes I want for my SBR, along with the weight. I'm almost tempted to put one on my WWSD build and stick the GLx 2.5-10 on my older dmr type upper again. I won't be able to see bullet holes in the target anymore, but it'll shave the extra weight back off and per the pics in this thread it's more than capable of what I want at 200 yards or more. It's not like the upper's a precision build that needs the 10x for more precise aim, it's a 1.5-2.5moa with most ammo build that is super light and fast. Seems ideal for one of these. eta: had to pick which to at least start with. I guess I'm putting it on the lightweight 16" build because I got the 223/308 version not the 300blk/commie version. I'll definitely be doing some videos on it once it arrives, more in depth and in the field than for the 2.5-10 since it won't be a frozen wasteland. I'm still loving that 2.5-10 and everyone who uses it is impressed. |

Per the owners manual: "This GLx 2x Prism Scope features the AutoLive™ reticle illumination technology, which turns your illumination off after three minutes of stillness to save your battery life – then automatically back on again at the slightest motion." AutoLive is very handy...but not so good if this optic is intended to be used on a weapon that will be kept in a vehicle...in which case, you can turn the shake awake feature off by turning the illumination knob to "0" (off). |

Edited to add more humor and make it clearer I didn't mean it as a jab. Marshall's a nice guy and all, but let's face it, business is business and toilet paper doesn't grow on trees.... waaaaait a minute. lol. It's already a damn good price for what we're getting if the reports are even remotely accurate, and I have no reason to believe otherwise. Personally I'm looking forward to getting mine in. It still blows my mind that the 2.5-10x GLx videos are my most popular, so maybe this will not just be another great optic for me but a boost for my channel. 1k views between the two videos and I only have 12 subscribers, so clearly folks were workin that search function. |
