What do you guys estimate your cyclic rate at?
Mine is very fast. I'm funning a H2 buffer with the Aers buffer spring and spacer. I'm going to try and time it when i get it working again. It's sounds faster than my Mini Uzi which is smoking fast. I wonder if mine is faster than it's supposed to be? Is there a way to slow it down a little? This might be why I'm having some FTE issues. Thanks |

Does this seem slower? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bf-wX9NcY9k&feature=youtu.be
If so, get an MGI rate reducer. |

I've got a Mini UZI also and the Shrike is a lot slower.
My Mini shoots around the high 900's w/ the factory Open bolt. Regarding the Shrike, I tested RoF recently w/ the following results. M855 Ammo, 16" Barrel H2 buffer 786 RPM Enidine buffer 707 RPM Enidine buffer + custom spacer/plug and Vltor A5 buffer tube - 663 RPM |

What's the secret to get that rate from the first vid? That's awesome.
Amphibian: Can you post a pic of that buffer tube set up? Would that work with the MGI as well and where did you get the custom spacer? |

The length of the plug that goes into the spring on mine is about .65". The length of the plug that is outside of the spring will vary due to varying internal buffer tube lengths which is why some people don't even use the Ares supplied washer. You will have to check that yourself by making sure the feed stud roller assembly doesn't impact the lower and that you can engage the bolt hold open.

Mine is more like the second video. It's really fast.
Wouldn't bother me that much if it ran fine. I figured slowing it down a little might make it more reliable?? |

I finally got to test an MGI in mine and it ran like an MG-42 But it wouldnt get more than 3-5 rds . It didnt lock the bolt back when feeding from mags either. Like it was running so fast the mag spring couldnt catch the carrier. Im close to 3,000 rds since march 2010 and havent had a day without way too many malfunctions yet. Not sure what my next move is. |

Whats the standar M16 ROF? 750-800? Mine is MUCH faster and speeds up. I'd guess 1000RPM.

I went out again yesterday for a few more trials. My std 14.5 fluted upper with the MGI was around 661 . Without swapping springs. Just putting the Shrike on and gas setting at #1 position it ran 956 After swapping springs to the ARES spring It ran 1082. All from mags. Still wont lock bolt back. When I tried to run it from a belt of XM -193 I couldnt get an accurate rof due to stoppages. But this time it was something different. FTE, the empty case couldnt get all the way out of the ejection port as it tried to feed the next round from the link. With the gas turned up to setting 3 it ran 1181! I guess I need to go back to the full length stock and LMG HYD buffer/MG-34 spring. That ran the best for me so far.

So I went out again yesterday after purchasing an H-3 buffer to try. I took every set up I had. But like a dumbass I forgot my pact timer and the vids my niece took were on her KIM phone and it was a major fail at getting them posted.. Now on to the day. for the first time I tried it without the quarter spacer in the stock. ' It still wouldn't lock the bolt back with it in. ' With the H-3 shooting single rds from a mag on the lowest gas setting it DID lock back . I tried a couple bursts and it did run approx 800 more or less.(no pact) I decided to try the MGI again and it took about 150 out "my best guess" and it ran flawlessly for a complete 200 rd belt.
I changed bbl's to the self regulating and it went back up to close to 900. After letting the manual adj bbl cool down I put it back on and got the good result again. I officially dislike the self regulating set up. I then put on my std DI shorty 11.5" to try and with the Ares spring and the MGI it ran boringly slow but it ran, I would say BAR slow 500 ish. It was in fact the best day I have had with it as far as malfunctions as the only ones I had were easily attributed to ammunition caused. I had a belt of unknown brass cased re-manufactured ammo that didn't work. But the PMC and the LC-xm-855 bulk pack all ran flawlessly. I have a hard time believing it was all due to that little spacer and when I cleaned it I didn't notice any peening on the rear area or the feed roller. |

My current setup is an A2 full length stock with a Brownell's lead weight in the stock. Buffer is a Colt full lenght LMG hydraulic buffer and a MG 34 recoil spring cut to 32 to 34 coils tuned to you weapon. Rate of fire with 16 inch non adjustable barrel usinng Fed. M855 62 grain ammo is 720-750 on pack timer. Lead weight makes the weapon settle down on target and feel /shoot/ sound like firing a M60- really cool. I have over 80,000 rounds thru my shrike that I've owned almost two years. Dozens of setups tried, but this is my favorite the past several months! MGDOC

I didn't fire it much. Just enough to do some 10 round bursts to get RoF. M855 ammo in all testing. Below are some of my notes on buffer weights. I never went heavier than the standard Vltor A5 buffer (5.4 oz) in the Shrike in fear of another carrier breakage. Which is why I did the Enidine setup. I've got a bunch of different buffers and springs I use for other M16 configurations. I just have only used, the H, H2, Enidine and very little use of the Vltor A5 standard with the Shrike (just to get RoF as mentioned above). Below is information I had in one of my spreadsheets of some of my buffers I weighed. This is for my own reference. I'm not saying this is what these buffers are supposed to weigh. Just what I weighed mine at for my own testing purposes. Have you broken a shrike carrier? I always assumed the Op rod would go first. Also can you post a picture of your modified lower that takes the saw bags/boxes and mags? Thanks! |

Will the MGI get it below 700? What spring are you using?
