Went to install my new LT15-7 this evening and am having an issue getting the barrel nut properly timed.  The first hole to line up with the gas tube hole is reached without making it to the acceptable torque range, and I can't reach the following hole (but just barely) without greatly exceeding the max torque.  It came close enough to get the gas tube through, but the result is a visibly canted rail (and front sight) and the gas key lightly binds on the gas tube.

Only my second build, so I gotta ask, am I missing something?

What upper receiver is it mounting to?  It might be a problem with the "mil-spec" threads on the upper.  Has any other barrel nut given you this problem before on that particular upper?\ receiver?

Rainier Arms receiver, first time I've used one

Did you lube the upper receiver threads with a graphite free grease.  AreoShell 33MS synthetic is mil.spec.  It makes a big difference in torque between dry & lubed.

Used moly grease

The only other thing I can think of is to back off nut 3-5 times and torque up to 30 plus each time.  On my 10 inch rail, I only bumped torque up to 50# to get perfect alignment for the gas tube.

Edit:  That is times before final torque.

I snugged and loosened 3 times before trying to time it.  30 ft lbs took me past one hole, and i was damn near 80 without reaching the next

Take it up to 30 plus three times.  Will give threads chance to set.  Other than that, not sure.  What rail are you putting on?  Could not find LT 15-7 on quick look.
