I'm looking to add BUIS to my DDM4V5LW and was wondering if the flat dark earth color is close to the Mil-Spec color?

If not, i can just go with black.

No. Flat dark earth is much lighter than mil spec. In this pic, you can see some FDE rail covers on my mil spec rifle. The color difference is noticeable.

Black goes with mil spec much better. Might be a little hard to see because of the flash. I think I took another without the flash. If so I'll add it in. Neither of the pics below really illustrate the actual look of the mil spec coating. Those pics were taken with garbage indoor lighting.

Thank you, I appreciate the answer. I'm going to go with black for BUIS.

I also bought a v11 as well that I am picking up tomorrow.
Ideally, I'd love to see accessories in brown. Darker brown, no FDE or similar garbage.

FDE might be functional (in the real world of camouflage etc.) but it always looked like shit to me.

I'm thinking of either dyeing some mags and BUIS in dark brown of spraying 'em.

The 'MilSpec+' DD came out with is truly the best brown variation I like out there.

The closest color I've seen is Patriot Brown cerakote, should you want to "colorize" some accessories yourself.

But I agree, I love my milspec+ color.

I like the mil+spec color too.

I ended up ordering black BUIS.

How hard is it to cerakote parts yourself or is it best left to the experts?

If you have a sandblaster or access to one, a decent HVLP sprayer and a big enough compressor you can do it yourself.

Out of the question for me then.

I have seen the Rit Dye thing done by Magpul and it looks promising; truly professionally looking results by simply shoving mags and accessories into a boiling mixture of Rit Dye and water.
