I picked up my Lithgow today. On initial inspection, I discovered some odd spots on the stock and was wondering if anyone could tell me what they are.
It's almost like brass pins were hammered into the stock and filed flush. Doesn't appear to be stock repairs.

Brass screws I would think as a stock repair....

I read in Stratton's book that the native wood used by Lithgow was weaker than English walnut and was sometimes reinforced at the factory.

The Australians used coachwood. The brass reinforcements screws are indeed original, in most cases, and were done at the factory. Most of these are not repairs, rather proactively reinforcing weak points in the stock.
