I asked the folks at LaRue which would be the best mount for my DPMS .308. They recommended an SPR-S. I took their advice and mounted my scope with an SPR-S. We went to a precision rifle course in September to make sure our rifles were zeroed. At the end of the class we were ringing steel plates at 500 yards. Flash forward to the afternoon of Thanksgiving day and my turn to deer hunt. My DPMS with the LaRue mount dropped a nice mature 8 point buck at 150 yards (about the average distance here in central Texas). So, I would pass along the recommendation that I received from the fine folks at LaRue and order an SPR-S mount.
I spoke with the guy on the phone and he told me for my purposes to get the lt 104 mount as I would not be firing at targets over 500 yds. Here in south alabama where I live it is very wooded and ranges of more than 200 yds are very few and far between. A 500 yds shot or longer would only come at a range or firing on a power line route.
Luckily if I decide I need more range I can always get the spr-s mount as I am in process of building an spr type AR15 so all is well. Actually I just looked up the spr-s and added it to my favorites folder for spr-build so I can remember it for laters just in case as 10 moa is pretty nice.
