| Watching Gov. Perry on Fox News. Kinda hoped he'd be wearing a LT hat while holding an OBR. |
|
For all the adoration of the good gov, I am curious as to why he needs 7 state police as security when he travels to Houston?
I thought he was all about saving taxpayers money. Senator McCain was at a ballgame with no security. What's up with all these minor folks with an armada of security like they are visiting heads of state? |

Bill White's Houston is a sanctuary city for criminals (illegal immigration - national trespassing - is a crime) and other Democrat ne'er-thee-wells.
As for McCain, what's he got to fear ? Nobody's takin' any of those TARP buzzards to task.

Did he make a trip abroad? What was the purpose and more important what was the cost? I hope he did go abroad to start discussions with other countries about the possibility of their having to deal direct with the Republic. As for cost, the man makes it a habit of moving around on the cheap. |

So, their projector guy is needed no matter what. Same deal, his assistants (the projector guys) don't start trimmin' trees for the city when he gets a call on his cell. Other than that, your silly question falls under opsec.

Silly question? Yep anything to do with Perry saying one thing and doing another will always fall into that category

So, you need the vehicle VIN numbers, head count, ammo count, time of arrival, routes, etc. I'll get right on that.
ETA - Keep in mind that I'm here rockin' out to the Allman Brother's "No Way Out" ... hence the attitude. ... and also keep in mind the President of the Republic gets my vote ... |

$18,000 for "consumables" such as household supplies and cleaning products
$1,001.46 in window coverings from upscale retailer Neiman Marcus a $1,000 "emergency repair" of the governor's filtered ice machine $700 clothes rack $70 for a two year subscription to Food & Wine Magazine $56,000 stipend for food and beverages Maintenance on the heated pool has cost taxpayers at least $8,400 The tab for grounds and lawn maintenance has topped $44,000 His spokeswoman made a point of mentioning that he has ONLY one housekeeper, one full-time chef (although a second chef works part time), a mansion administrator (who left and was not replaced), and a steward. If that's what you vote for, fine by me, but I object to the guy painting himself as thrifty when he is sticking it to the taxpayers. Then again, maybe his opponent is worse

Chump change ... Reall money is $700 Billion Dollars for TARP, followed by several $100 Billion more for this and that stimulus crap. A state the size of Texas requires some doo-dads.

Okay, I was following both sides of the debate until you lost me on that one Mr. Larue. How does federal stimulus spending have any relationship to the governer of Texas' state spending on personal luxuries? Im not saying that Perry's spending on personal stuff is excessive, I just dont think the two have any relationship. |

Well, I dont have a dog in this fight (I dont live in Texas, so it aint my $$$, and I dont know anything about normal Gubernatorial finances in any state––my own included), so here is my neutral take:
The magazine subsricptions seems reasonable, but why are tax payers paying for his magazines? Why cant he pay for that out of his own pocket? Having cooks and assistants doesnt bother me. In fact, I would prefer my leaders not have to worry about getting home early to make dinner if there are pressing matters at the office. The house budget doesnt bother me. State executives need to have nice houses/things for entertaining––especially when that entertaining includes prospective businesses that might want to open shop in the state. The same goes for the food budget. However, having bought my wife shoes/purses at Neiman Marcus in the past, I can tell you that shopping there on the taxpayer's dollar probably qualifies as wasteful. The end result is, some of this spending––if accurate/true/actually coming from govt. coffers––seems wasteful. I dont think it is golden toilet seat egregious, but it doesnt smack of strict fiscal responsibility. Just my outside opinion and worth the bandwith it was printed on. Quoted:

[/quote] You mean like the strong message about being fiscally concervative the tea partiers sent by making John Boehner the next speaker of the house? The same JB who supports an extra engine to be built for EVERY f-35 because the business is in his district. The same John Boehner who CRIED to convince people to vote for TARP.........boy that was a lession learned. Im also staring at a picture of Gov Perry holding a check and shaking the hand of the business owner who recieved it. Its a stimulus check......the hiprocracy is rampant. |

He was running alone, and only needed a .380 to pop that coyote. Travel is about pomp and circumstance. McCain doesn't have any, any more. And he is hated in much of Houston. He's not known as zoolander on the radio because people love him. Pomp and circumstance - at someone else's expense. Inexcusable. The size of the gaggle on travel (and expense) is self serving, saying look at me - I'm important. What happened to fiscal responsibility? He can't have it both ways. |

The next Texas legislative session will convene in less than a year, on Tuesday, January 11, 2011. As TPEA prepares for the 82nd Texas Legislature we have attempted to assess the state’s likely fiscal situation for the 2012-2013 biennium. Based on our discussions with state fiscal and budget experts, it is clear that Texas legislators will face extreme fiscal challenges in trying to fashion a state budget in 2011. Before considering possible use of the state’s “Rainy Day Fund” or any growth in tax revenues, TPEA has concluded that the state can reasonably expect to face a budget deficit of $15 to $20 billion Yeah - swimingly
