Hello, I just purchased a CMMG Middy and a M4. I am extremely happy with both. However, ( of course you knew that was coming) when I shot the M4 the MI rear sight that I mounted required 1 click of windage ( approx .65") to the left to be dead on. The middy's fist shot was over 15" to the left and required me to apply approx 20 clicks. The rear sight used on the middy is an ARMS 40. The sight is about another 15 clicks away from being all the way to the left. This ARMS 40 was taken off of a different M4 and the sight was pretty much in the middle on that rifle give or take a click. Both shoot 1.5" groups at 100yds with open sights and work flawlessly. So the accuracy is absolutely there! What can be done to correct this having the sight adjusted to the left.? |
IMO - no. I have several just like yours. Freaking things aren't 100% aligned

AFAIK, the rear sight's "windage" adjustment isn't for windage, but to counteract any slight sight misalignment. Your M4 sounds like it's virtually perfect. If the mid-length is using only half the rear sight's adjustment, then that's probably within normal tolerances, too. This is a common theme... if it really bugs you, then you might try to have the FSB re-aligned. Ben |

My new mid-length, which otherwise shoots well and seems accurate, has the same "problem," but I wonder if it's really problem. I haven't gotten it to a proper range to shoot at 100yds, but at 30yds rounds impact off the paper to the right. It takes about 5-6 clicks to "zero" the rifle (out of perhaps 16-20 possible). The rear sight has to be visibly off-center to "zero" the rifle, but I can't actually see that the front sight base is mis-aligned. I've heard from various sources on the "errornet" that this is totally normal and acceptable (that's what the rear sight adjustment is for), or that even the slightest mis-alignment is unacceptable. Please advise, Ben |
