Anybody ever try dillo dust in chili? I put it on the hamburger while I was frying it and then the hamburger went in the chili.
I'll let you know how it turns out. Maybe I'll post a dillo dinner pic later with some fresh cornbread from the cast iron skillet.

I made stew last Sunday and pre-browned the steak with a mixture of flour and Dillo Dust... then added a heavy dose to the pot.   It came out fantastic!

My wife isn't big on my style of seasoning as usually I want heat... but she LOVES the Dillo Dust as it's first ingredient is Sugar.

I'll have to try that. I haven't used any dillo dust till today and I've got a bunch of it in the cupboard. I thought it would be spicy hot, but when I tried it today I was surprised. Good stuff.
The chili is smelling good. Just a few more hours.

I buy hamburgers from Publix deli that have cheddar cheese and bacon shredded and mixed into the ground beef. I add dillo dust, and grill. Tastes amazing.

Bacon.

Speaking of bacon ... I recently made an startling discovery.

H-E-B.

The deli in our local H-E-B does breakfast tacos and they sell the over-runs of fried bacon, not really over-runs, either way, they have nailed the act of perfectly fried bacon.

It's relatively inexpensive, thick, peppered stuff that is like crack cocaine.

God help us all.

Dillo dust worked very well in the chili, but I am going to have to tweak my recipe just a bit for it. I'm not sure how yet... I think it would be really good in a spicier chili than what I make. My chili is a little sweet already (I'm a yankee) and the dust made it more so.
The dillo dust is awesome though and I'm going to try it in some more recipes. I really wasn't expecting it to taste the way it did, which is not a bad thing. I thought it would be hotter/spicier than it was, which is why I hadn't tried it till now.
I'll keep you up to date on the progress of my dillo chili as I make more. I didn't get a dinner pic,  but if you want I can get you chili snack pic (same as dinner pic, but later in the evening).

Honestly, I never got the whole beans in chili argument. To me they are just two different and both good meals. Yours looks very good to me. Enjoy!

i make chili with dillo dust all the time...

i add it while browning the meat... then put it in a crock put with an 8oz can of tomato sauce, some water, 1 can each of goya kidney and black beans, add some chili seasoning, cayenne pepper, salt, and masa to thicken it up... let it sit in the crock pot for a while... add dillo dust to taste

serve with cheese, fresh jalapenos, chopped red onion, and blue tortilla chips...

Amen (<~~~ just to show I'm not a Godless heathen)

Look, I'm a Yankee by birth and a Texas by marriage (BTW, no HEB in Dallas... Central Market but no "normal" HEB) and I'm sorry, but beans have no place in a real chili.

You want Texas Chili, Mark?   Make it with venison steak (cubed), venison burger and make it hot and red with stewed tomatos.   THAT is "real" Texas Chili.   Another option is the next time you come to the DFW area, I'll take you to Tolbert's in Grapevine.  The Texas Red and the first 6 rounds are on me.

Ha ha. I don't think I have ever had chili without beans. Sloppy joes are good too, but you are correct, no beans in sloppy joes.

ETA: If any of you want to post recipes of "real" chili I'll give it a try.
