[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Colt model # question????

I've searched high and low, on this site and Biggerhammer, and cannot come up with one unified response to my querie, which is this: What is the exact model number for the green label Colt 16" carbine that is roll marked "AR15 A2 Sporter II"? I know its big brother (the rifle version) is the R6500, but I've gotten everything from 6420 to 6520, etc. I appreciate any help and thank you guys in advance.

It's "SP345XXX"....

It's not at 6520 but it could could be a 6420. Either that or a 6001. Sorry, that's the best I can do

One sure way to find out is call Colt.

Thanks Marc, I appreciate the effort. I know it's not a 6001, as that is the SP1 carbine. Guess the quest continues.

It's either a 6420 (if it has A1 sights) or a 6520 (if A2s) from 1984/5 before they named them "Government Carbine" and gave them their own serial number range. My guess would be that it's a 6420 if the 6500 (A1 Sights) is it's big brother.
