I have to say, my .308 BCG, that came with my 6.5CM and .308 uppers hasn't given me any issues.
PSA told me the bolt is a HP one... just with no small tipped / hole FP. That said... I do use an Adjustable GB, .308 Tubbs flatwire and a rifle length buffer system with a 9.3oz .308 buffer. I truly believe most of the issues with "pressure signs" in a .308 AR are from the action be "forced" open sooner then wanted... hence a lot of +2 gas system builds. Increasing the time the bolt is locked closed ( by milliseconds ) will help dramatically, with the typical pressure signs. It has on 5 .308 / 6.5CM builds I have done. To be completely honest, I do have one PSA supplied small tipped FP and hole BCG.... it actually shots worse groups then the .308 BCG... both in my .308 and 6.5CM uppers.... I don't know if the FP has proper protrusion or not. |

I don't know if the FP has proper protrusion or not. Last time I tried to use it, I had a failure to extract. The brass was left right in the chamber. Upon inspection, the extractor is really loose and easy to manipulate with a finger. As we have discussed in this thread, I think PSA is just calling these high pressure. Comparing is to another 308 bolt from PSA as well as a Toolcraft 308 bolt, I don't see any difference in the size of the hole or the firing pin shape. My Aero Precision HP bolt, on the other hand, has a smaller hole and tapered firing pin. The 308 firing pin won't fit through the hole. At any rate, no harm in giving the bolt / fp combo a shot. Between this as well as all of the other issues you addressed in your PA10 thread, I would not personally ever buy another big block AR from PSA. Way too many problems and lack of quality control. I have a PA10 as well as a PA 6.5 from PSA. By the time I was done stripping parts that I didn't like or didn't work, I was left with receiver sets, buffer tube assemblies and rails. Very Meh. |

I am also having some issues with my GEN 2 PA-10 (18" SS barrel)
I have installed a Tubbs 308 buffer spring (factory buffer and tube), and a clamp on SLR .750 adjustable gas block.... Gas block installation wasn't the smoothest process but I don't believe that is the issue. I loaded one round of Federal XM80 149 grain at a time to see if it would lock the bolt back, but never even made it to that stage because every round the BCG would get stuck forward. The first few times I had to mortar the rifle to get the bolt free, after that I was able to rack the charging handle to release it. I was using Magpul 10 rounders, although one of them seems to have a spring issue that I haven't bothered messing with yet. Probably fired a total of ten rounds with this happening every time. BCG issue occurred with both mags, and I was charging the gun with the bolt release and the charging handle. I lubed the gun the same as I do my DD and BCM rifles previous to firing it. Cycling the rifle feels fine, albeit not super smooth. Im glad I took my DDv7 with a newly mounted MRO with me so the range trip wasn't a total waste... Any ideas? Thanks in advance |

Great stuff, OP. I know you don't get a lot of replys on these threads, but I can assure there are lots of us out there who read them with great interest. I have a PSA Gen2 PA10 18" Mid-Length .308 WIN Stainless Steel sitting in the safe, and I'm still trying to decide what to do with it. |

I took mine out today. I installed a Doublestar adjustable gas block last night. I tightened the adjusting screw all the way in then let it out about 3/4 turn. This was too much. First shots ejected between 12 and 1 O'clock.
Adjusted again, closed it all the way then opened 1/4 turn. Would not cycle. Adjusted again to about 1/2 turn open and bingo, cycled fine and ejected between 3 and 4. This was with Malaysian surplus 147 grain ammo. The rifle range was closed today at my shooting club so I could only shoot it on our 50 yard multipurpose range. Didn't get to stretch it's legs out but it was a very soft shooter. With the adjustable gas block, the Strike Industries King Comp and a Exos Defense TI7 stock it has very little recoil. My rifle has the standard carbine length buffer tube with the short 3.8 oz buffer installed. I also installed a Larue MBT-2S in this gun. First one I've tried and it is very nice. Well worth the $99. |

Quoted: Sounds almost identical to my setup. Did you have any fail to ejects with the malaysian surplus? I found my extractor was ripping part of the rim of the casing off the round which was causing it to not extract/eject properly. I've had the issue once again since I installed my adjustable gas block, which tells me I need to restrict the gas even further. My Malaysian is pretty corroded / musky... Nothing horrible, just that classic brass cased ammo from a very damp environment. I know you don't want to hear this... but try polishing 20rds ( with a NON-ammonia based polish ... NuFinish should do ) see if helps. And my Malaysian ( 540rd cans ) runs fine.... ( so far ) Mine loves the sanitized DAG. |

My PA-10 In its 10 to 11 pounds in current config Firing mil surplus 147 grain ammo the recoil that is there which is a push more than anything Its mostly stock only thing done internally is the trigger was changed Geissele Super Semi-Automatic (SSA®) Trigger Primary arms Blem red dot from recent sale and their mount Magpul Buis Magpul rail covers Magpul sand 20 rounder now that i found a source for the black version the sand colored ones are for range use Magpul ACS-L stock that came with it Theres a flash light on the left side as well. https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t34.0-12/28740959_1979698169014874_1174425322_n.jpg?oh=c238a8ed3c1fd285fd1650eb740fed3d&oe=5AA0795C Eventually when the time comes it may get a new gas block and a few other fancy parts as needed. https://www.nokick.com/Limbsaver_Recoil_Pad_for_Magpul_Collapsible_Stocks_p/ls-10025.htm |

Quoted: Try this fancy ( lol ) part... MUCH better cushion then the Magpul one.... If you don't like it, I'll buy it from you... shipping and all. https://www.nokick.com/Limbsaver_Recoil_Pad_for_Magpul_Collapsible_Stocks_p/ls-10025.htm I will Eventually add parts like a different gas block and lighter barrel and buffer and spring down the road though. I was wondering if they had one for magpul stocks thank you bfoosh06 thats the stock pad on that stock in the pic |

When you say polish 20 rounds, you mean polish the rounds prior to firing them through the gun? If so, what will that accomplish exactly? Thanks for the feedback. |

Quoted: I hadn't cleaned the chamber in about 50 rounds of suppressed fire, give or take a few. I cleaned it after the trip where it had the FTE and it was DIRTY. I have yet to fire it again. When you say polish 20 rounds, you mean polish the rounds prior to firing them through the gun? If so, what will that accomplish exactly? Thanks for the feedback. I don't mean make it pretty, just slick it up some. I ( ahem ) cleaned a whole mess load of Grade 3, Ball powdered ,5.56 Grungy Guat. from years ago... stopped the corrosion and got rid of all sorts exterior grunge. Stuff still runs like a champ. |

Quoted: I do know what you mean... and I wasn't make fun of your choice of words at all.... Mine is full of fancy parts !! I'm not fancy at all.. I've got WAY more t-shirts then fancy shirts Lol

Quoted: I figured that for some reason i want to make a 14.5 pinned to 16 inch .308 upper ![]() That .458 Lott will shoot clean through at least 39 1/2 inches of pine.. with and against the grain.... go measure the thickest pine tree you can find and measure that out... I can see the smile already. |

Quoted: My Maylay is kinda grungy / or slightly sticky ... so for the sake of argument.. the grungy brass it might not be easily releasing from the chamber walls. Quoted: No, I closed the gas block until it wouldn't cycle then opened it up 1/4 turn. All the cases looked fine. A few scratches along the case. I guess I should polish the bore and the feed ramps a little. The Maylay ammo I have is pretty clean fwiw. |
|
Quoted: Try different ammo for the break in, preferably a .308 round... and make sure you have thoroughly cleaned the chamber. Keep us posted ! I then tried to hand cycle some 7.62x51 rounds, again without success. Multiple FTF that were jammed pretty bad. I know hand cycling doesn't necessarily predict function though... I went ahead and cleaned the ramps and chamber thoroughly. (ETA) I will purchase a few brands of 308 ammo for my next range day and update with the results. Thanks again |

Took the gun to the range a few weeks ago, was still having issues. Ended up taking it to the gunsmith. Gas tube and gas block were misaligned. Had him install a new gas tube cause the factory one was little banged up. Have shot the gun twice since and it functions 100% with 7.62x51 and 308. Thanks for the help.... Now I just need to decide on an scope (using an extra PA MD-ADS on it now). Maybe a leupold VX2 4-12.. |

Looking forward to putting it on the PA10 when it gets here! |
| Great thread thanks for all the info. So I bought the KAK buffer and tubbs flat wire spring. The spring is a least double the length of the PSA. I have the longer PSA marked tube. It is suppose to be that long? It says SR-25/AR-10 standard and carbine on the package. I don't think it will fit in the tube. |
|
Awesome thanks will try and stuff it in there. Quoted: It will fit. Here is an example of a flatwire v. round wire , fully compressed. You can see it takes up much less room. BTW , I even run one ( Tubbs .308 Flatwire ) in my 9MM PCC Colt pattern carbine... and its buffer has the same shank length as a regular AR15 carbine buffer. It also worked in both lengths of the OEM PSA .308 carbine stocked setups. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/171545/ARBUF_2_large2_9-547445.jpg |
