Hey it pays the same across the board by rank so why not. granted, I'm in the air base defense/ground combat side of the air force but our deployed locations are definitely more accommodating.

You have to take pride in the suck because the money isn't worth it. Go Army!

really? I will be E4 in March, which is my 2 year mark.how does that compare to Army? unless you're talking about field promotions (aka: squad leader gets shot lol)

I had my 5 at the 2 year mark. From what I understand you will spend a good amount of time hanging out as an e-4
Link Posted: 11/18/2012 6:10:25 PM EST
actually I'm promoting early which should (might, cross fingers) put me in an early test cycle so I can be E5 by 3 years. which is the earliest an active duty person can gain E5.

Air Force-Days Inn! What? Was the Hilton booked?
Marines- You're going to have to sleep on the floor with the other boots. All the empty rooms are for the NCO's

Deployments:
Army-Another 12 months I just got back
Air Force-What the hell are you talking about 90 days
Marines- I should have joined the Air Force, but I'm glad I'm not in the Army.

Per Diem:
Army-Wow 3.50 a day. Just think in two days I can actually get the whole Happy Meal
Air Force: 90 dollars. Awesome! Hey baby want to go out tonight?

Basic Training:

Air Force-Hey mom can you come pick me
Marines- What the hell was I thinking?

Sleeping in:
Army- Crap its after 6! I'm going to be late
Air Force- I missed Lunch!?
Marines- Formation is at 0530 for room inspections at 0700.

Forced Road March:
Army-What only 7 miles
Air Force-You want me to do what?
Marines- Good job on completing this 15 day field operation Marines! Now lets march 15 miles back to camp.

Uniforms:
Army-Think I can get another day out of this one?
Air Force-How do my creases look?
Marines- That'll be $750 for your dress uniforms and $350 for your cammies. Don't worry you won't ever wear the fancy ones because you'll be in the field the whole time.

Eating in the field:
Army-MRE
Air Force-Pass the steak sauce please
Marines- Master Sgt. Messed up on the chow supply list, looks like we get 1 MRE per day.

All purpose cleaner:
Army-Private get over here
Air Force-409
Marines- Why is there frost in your freezer Marine? Did you forget to wax your door?

Army-Oh sounds like fun
Air Force-Why?? I don't understand

Marines- A satellite phone that gets shared by an entire company.

Females:
Army-Who's next?
Air Force-Sorry I already have a date
Marines- Only been in for a year, already an E-4.

Internet:
Army-Sorry the captain needs it now
Air Force-My fingers are starting to cramp up
Marines- Download as much porn as possible before deployment.

Dirt:
Army-Wow I didn't know dirt could get up that far
Air Force-Crap I got dirt under my nails
Marines- Live it, eat it, breath it, be it, but it better not be on your weapon.

Low Crawl:
Army-S**t I just took a shower
Air Force-Isn't that something a snake does?
Marines- The only way to effectively police call all of the cigarette butts on camp.

Cover and Concealment:
Army-That rock and brush look good
Air Force-Ya I think they have that down at the BX
Marines- You can never have too many sand bags on your post.

Rainy Day:
Army-I don't care if your gortex leaks
Air force-So whats on TV today
Marines- An excuse to play football for PT and have a gear inspection.

Marriage:
Army-So how many times have you been married now?
Air Force- Happy Anniversary baby
Marines- Get married to some random girl in order to move out of the barracks, get divorced and she takes your brand new truck that you bought with your deployment money.

The AF promotes slower than the other branches, it's a fact.

I've met 14 year Chiefs, but they are the extreme minority, and likely not human. Depending on how well you test, most people hang out around Staff and Tech for a good chunk of their career. I've never met, or even heard of, someone making staff in 3 years, it's almost impossible to have enough points, even with a perfect PFE score. Some years are better than others, but I think it's been about a decade since the last Great Staff Giveaway happened.
