Best for the money: RRA 2-stage.

Best overall (cost no object): Geissele.

you could try the Battle Trigger from Spikes.

I have a few of them and like them.

The last one that I installed was on my 458 SOCOM and it is very smooth

other than that you could look into the Geissele SSA Trigger they are however more expensive.

This. My opinion is don't waste your money on anything else. The Armalite and RR triggers are OK for what they are. If you buy a NM you are paying lots of extra money for what takes literally 5 minutes with some gunsmith stones.

Just buy the Geissele SSA for $180 or go all out and get one of the adjustables for $280. You will not be disappointed.

The Geissele SSA at $170 (from ADCO) is not that much more money than a RRA 2-stage and doesn't go "soft" over time.

Geissele also has a new S2S (Super2Stage) trigger (from ADCO) for $125.

If you are handy you have several options. Most time and cheapest is to pull your lower apart and stone the engagement areas. You can also adjust the spring tension too. Hit the AR-15 gunsmithing forum.

If you are not handy then just get one of the drop in trigger kits. I have shot the JP and Chip McCormack ones and have be impressed.

Somewhere in the middle is the Giselle, RRA, and a couple others that will give you good results.

Before you get too far into it, make sure your lower is good to go. You sometimes run across lowers where hole spacing is not to spec and/or not perpendicular which can cause binding.

I can't believe no one has said Timney yet.  They are all I use in my 3 gun rifles.  I would use them in all others, but they arent cheap.  The single stage 3.5 or 4 pound trigger is pretty much as good as it gets for me.  I have used Mc Cormicks, Geissele's, JP's, and Jards.  I still take the Timney.  But as always, that's my opinion, and YMMV...

I have 2 JP triggers I I absolutely love them...they are adjustable and take a little bit of work adjusting, but once you get them adjusted....Sweet!

Go for a Geissele (guys-lee)trigger, I've got a super dynamic enhanced and a Hi-speed national match.  Super triggers!

I have a S2S and so far so good I honestly like it about as much as my KAC 2 stage. I have put about 300 round down range with this trigger installed in my sbr and as far as triggers go it's a nice one.

Or you could send a standard trigger to Bill Springfield.  I have one in my lower if you want to try it out.

The one I have from him that suffers hammer-follow tells me not to take that bet.

I had issues with one from him also, but I will say it was one of the nicest triggers I have ever shot...

+1
If you're looking for an excellent single stage trigger try the Timney.  I had a RR 2 stage match trigger on my precision AR and it just has too much creep for me.  I swapped it out for a Timney trigger about a month ago and my consistency improved a lot.  It was a simple and easy swap. I highly recommend it for accuracy but it might not be ideal for 3-gun or other high action shooting.

I bought it off the EE still new in pkg for 175 delivered.

I looked into Geisselles but everything they offer still retains some 2-stage properties which I didn't want.

Mine is for a HK91 pattern rifle (clone) and the hammer started following before I ever put a round through the gun.  To be fair, it was free to me so no loss.
Long story short, some years back I bought a barreled action from a guy on HKWeaponsystems.com, and got screwed with multiple barrel bulges and a grossly out-of-spec receiver which resulted in ~10" shot patterns of key-holing bullets (see below) at just 25m, ~18" high & left from my POA.  Scumbag seller wouldn't make it right, so fellow list members took pity on me and offered to rebuild my rifle for free, even going so far as donating the necessary parts & labor including a Springfield trigger job from Bill.  The smith who built the rifle made a note to tell me that the hammer followed a few times while he was test firing it.  It has not gotten any better since then.

I do have one Geissele SSA trigger in an AR15 and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!
