have you seen the latest issue of American Rifleman?
it's got an article about the 38 super, even gives mention of baby face nelson's converted tompson 38 super. wouldn't mind having one of the newer ones if I could afford it; I've shot several older ones that while they function just fine, they just wasn't up to par in the accuracy dept, not that I'm a good pistol shot, they just wasn't that good |

I haven't read it, but.... $369.99 http://www.centerfiresystems.com/AC-38SUPER.aspx ![]() I think Dillinger was a fan of the .38 Super as well. You could, way back when, get Thompsons chambered for .38 Super, and drums too. |

I bought a RIA in 45acp back when they were $280, pretty decent shooter even with the dinky assed "GI" sights, no malfunctions of any kind in approx 2k rounds of reloads and various factory. |

Sucks to be you! That's no way to speak to the president of The Duke's fan club!!!!!!!! An old time 1911 smith told me the RIA 1911s were inconsistent as hell in quality. He said you might get a bad or a real good one. Even with the good ones, other vendor parts might be hit or miss on fitting on the frame. But hey, you get that with the high dollar ones too. |

That helps explain my little extractor issue on my 1911. Sumbitch spews brass every which way. Then again, I've got between 700 and 900 rounds through it. |

You did buy a gun with a GI ejection port any ejector... |

I think that's why all replacement parts, even the one's that claim to be "drop in" have a bit of extra material so that they can be fitted to the individual gun. I bought mine figuring it'll be left as is, it'd even got a decent trigger right out of the box. |

According to my buddy, almost all of the 1911s are hit and miss to GI specs, meaning the axis holes vary in distance from each other quite a bit. Even the axis holes are off. Then the parts are a nightmare from one vendor to another. He says nothing is within specs anymore. The closest one at a low cost is the Springfield GI according to him. |

I bought a cheap 1911 a long time ago, I wasted my money, it was a pile of crap. Spending a lot of money for a 1911 doesn't guarantee you will get a good one, back in 70-71 I bought a Colt Gold Cup, absolutely beautiful gun, jam o matic, unreliable gun, I should have sent it off to a good 1911 guy to get it running, but after a few years I was so frustrated dealing with it I finally sold it. |

I learned a long time ago if a 1911 didn't rattle (unloaded!) when you shook it, it would probably be a POS as far as ultra reliability goes. I'll let you shoot the STI next time we go to the range. I was thinking more of the lines you loan it to me with a couple of thousand rounds to try it out.
I've been shooting a Glock 21 and a Sig 220 for the last 15 years or so and left my Series 70 Colt alone. I don't wanna get back into the 1911s. It's another addiction I should pass up. |
