I live in gilbert and dont know of any places to shoot my riffles and the .50. Without paying high range fees, where is there land to shoot on legally?

AZHAMMER,
You can shoot in Florence near the National Guard base just north of town. I usually go right by the railroad tracks after work. You'v got about 150-200 yrd range with a nice 25' tall mound of dirt.

Shooting at Rio Salado is cheap, and as an added bonus you get to watch the rangemasters whig out.

Mike i would like to debate the issue of your WRONG!!!   I went by the gate and it says" State trust land"  permit required(az hunting license ok)  NO target shooting.

I think i was wrong when i said BLM,  but this area is state trust land.

I was saying wrong to the statement that BLM is a no go.  I did not know you were speaking of State  Trust Land, that is a no go.

where are you speaking of? You know just for the record...

Actually Pancho66 is right, that piece of land is a small plot leased to the AZNG.
It's all right to shoot there with permission from the Guard, and he and I have been told by the range safety officers that we can use it IF WE KEEP IT CLEAN!
About once every 3 months Annarchy and I police the area just to keep the peace.

So it would be a "NO GO" for us then.

Well, honestly I don't see why you couldn't.
The only problem is it is a small area and will not accomidate many shooters (a la AZstan).
My main reason for using it is when I just want to test a weapon and don't feel like driving an hour each way to do it, other than that it's not really all that great.
The only saving point it has for me is that it's 5 minutes from my house, and we sometimes use it for informal get togethers from work.

Rio Salado membership only costs $60/year and then all your shooting is FREE ! Don't be a tightwad - pay to play and support this local resource. Hell, you are shooting a 50BMG, so you have to be rich.

What constitutes "exciting" for you ? Topless dancing girls on the range ?

Demonstrate some competence (you can do that, can't you) and you can get your membership card punched to allow private access all the other ranges (not just the Public Range, which I agree is limiting). There, you can set up pretty much whatever training or fun shooting you want.

If you are into serious training/competition, and if you want to measure yourself against the best in the world, then Rio is the place. Of course, if you prefer pointless bump fired mag dumps of Wolf at soda cans and watermelons, then you and your mullet are welcome to stay in the desert .
