Well the wife wants to spend my bonus on windows instead of guns. For now I am looking for any recommendations for window installers/manufacturers. I may be looking for a new wife if the windows don't work out.
Thanks |

I am very happy with my windows from Paramount Builders. You get a lifetime warranty for yourself and the next person who buys your house, a nice selling feature. They are smooth and work great and keep my house cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
The guy that installed ours found a problem with one of the windows during the install. He did not say anything and just ordered a whole new window. We got a call two weeks later when the new window came in and they called to schedule the install. I am not sure what was wrong with it and we never could find it. They came out and pulled out the window and installed the new one. It was LaRue like CS. |

Thompson Creek windows? www.thompsoncreek.com
I listen to Chris Core on WTOP and he raves over them, swears by them. They're made in the area to your specs. It sounds really first rate but that's what a commercial is supposed to do, you know? |

Thanks for all the recommendations. We will be evaluating over the next few weeks and deciding on a contractor.
I liked Chris Core when he was at WMAL (We Market Allday Long). I might have to tune into WTOP just for his show. Replacement is absolutely gonna happen...I'm not going cheap on this. My current windows are cheap homebuilder windows that originally came with the house. I don't think that they are even double pane. Thanks |

Windows plus did a security fair at my office. They Hung a $100 bill behind one of their Windows. Broke the first layer of glass with a center punch then handed you an aluminum baseball bat. You got 5 swings and if you could make it through you got to keep the bill. I saw 3 big guys from out facilities department try. None got the bill. Supposedly layer in the day a guy got a small hole in the window and was trying to force his hand through it. He was cutting himself up so they stopped him and gave him the money. When they came out and gave me a quote the Gorrell Windows were the same price as another quotes plain Windows. And they have a lifetime warranty. My boys cracked the glass in their room, just called up Windows plus, they ordered a new window and came out a week layer and installed. |

I didn't have a good experience installing my new windows. The first contractor split with my 6K deposit and the second wasn't that great either. Stay away from Long Windows. I did not use Long Windows, but I did talk to them. They were the text book example of high pressure sale. |
|
Had mine installed last year from Paul Henry's windows
They did a fine job. No high pressure sale stactics. The owner himself came out measured and gave us a quote and left, no "priced for today only" bullshit. |

Another contractor to avoid: Ameritech.
High pressure sales, wasn't impressed with their product or prices. And 7yrs later after repeatedly telling them to remove me from any lists they have, they still call me once or twice per year to ask if I want my windows replaced. |

Have you looked at local hardware stores for windows? I have been doing the windows in my house myself. Each window takes maybe 30 min start to finish. I did it like thsi to buy a few here and there. This month I purchased 4 and if you do them all at one time it does not take long either. I didnt get the most expensive ones on the planet but they are light and day compared to the 1987 construction windows. Some of the old ones had moisture in them and others wouldnt open and close. The new ones go up and down as well as tilt in to clean from the outside.
Just remember if you get new construction windows you are going to be required to remove your vinal or wood siding. If you get replacement windows the trick is to get them in there square and then seal the gaps. Pretty straight forward. |

We got ours here and were happy enough to recommended them to my parents. |
