I really like the Nosler ballistic tip. Even though I only have it in .308. Besides regular surplus ammo that I keep loaded in mags at all times I keep one 20 rounder filled with TAP ammo. Although its pretty much useless if I had to defend myself with it since my AR's are always in the safe. Thats where the .357 Magnum with Hydrashocks comes in handy.

I have a small stash of T223E. It seems to be good stuff. I haven't tried it in the new rifle yet, but I could shoot MOA with it in my other one. It appears to be loaded in military brass, and sealed, but is match grade quality. I'm sure fedgunner will be along shortly to fill you in with all the details. In the mean time you can check this out. I think they also have a balistic gelatin test on their web page somewhere.

I just picked up some Black Hills 68gr match to try out.
Other than that, its usually 00 buck in the boom stick or XM193. |

I hate to even think about self defense, if I had to I would.
I prefer the green tip S&B, the black tip Basnean(sp) this UAE cheap stuff. Shit, the wwb will go through 1/4 inch cast iron. I have never tried this over priced name brand ammo. |

I use Federal/ATK 50 Gr. Frangible, but I am in an urban environment where an overpenetrating bullet could go through 3 or 4 houses. Cheaper than TAP and the soft point stuff, too.

Which part didn't you understand? I use FRANGIBLE ammunition so as not to overpenetrate my thin walls and kill the neighbors. It is less expensive than TAP or other soft point ammo as well, and feeds effectively. |

The beauty of the .223/5.56 round is that it does not overpenetrate. Whether it is 55 gr FMJ or even up to the 75 & 77gr bullets, they still will penetrate less than handgun caliber bullets, especially after going through walls. The only ones that have issues with excessive penetration are the Federal 62gr TBBC, and maybe the M855. The 50gr is maybe a little light as it will not have very deep penetration through tissue, especially if it were from the side. |

Well, 12 pine boards, divided by 3 equals 4 layers a .223 bullet might pass through in 3 houses. A heavier bullet might go through more...
ETA: Might. Not saying it would happen, but I'm not willing to take that chance in court if it came to that. |

Self defense ammo?
If someone ever breaks into my house, I'll just chain him to the hot water heater, coat him in gasoline, and set him on fire. That'll learn him.  No, really, right now I have a couple mags of Q3131A as just-in-case...but my primary in-house go-to is an M1 Carbine loaded with softpoints. |

"Acceptable Collateral Damage" What would have been interesting in their testing, would have been to construct the walls more like an actual house, with studs spaced differently throughout the different walls, maybe some wiring, paint or wallpaper (not sure what kind of difference that would make), siding on last wall. Also, it would have been beneficial to have gelatin to see what penetration depths ther would have been after going through the walls. From, the testing that I have read in magazines at work, the .223 does not penetrate very deep after going through only one wall. |

I use MAGIC BULLETS in my NoBarreled Rifle! I can put down zombies at 1000 yards!
Seriously, I USED to use American Eagle, XM193, and South African for the good stuff, Wolf or Barnaul for plinking ammo. If you can get your hands on some, I highly recommend Federal TRU - Tactical Rifle Urban. -iNuhBaD |
