Not very many years ago, I was issued an XM16E1, serial number 127675.  I liked it.  No malfunctions.

Pizza box?  You lost me.

In my unit, only the 2E1X1 Satellite, Wideband & Telemetry Systems maintainers assigned to the AN/TRC-170 shop receive either a GAU-5, GUU-5/P or an M4 with or without an M203.  The rationale is that a standard-issue M16A2 is too long to carry around while having to get in / out of the below shelters / vans.  In other words, they don't want us banging up the doorjambs and rifles all day long.

ETA: Saw Matt's Red X icon below all three of my pictures.  Dude, refresh your shit once in awhile.

So who provides your security?, Are you posted forward out in the middle of nowhere, or are you supposed to augment a base station?.If you are out in the middle of nowhere you look like sitting ducks, and that being so, It would suck to be you.

Hopefully the Army / Marines have killed everyone necessary before we get there.

Like 95% of the AF would go ANYWHERE that wasn't 99% secured. Whatever!

Remember, the priorities are the O & E Clubs and then the golf course.  Security is somewhere behind that.

But if SHTF we got M203s. . . with CS rounds.

For how old they've got to be, those GAU's look awfully purdy ... do they ever get used?  Even the one with MILES gear looks like a safe-queen.  My M4 has only ever been used by me, and it's about 6 months old, and it's rattier than that.

Being ANG GAUs you can bet that a round has not passed through the barrel in over five years.

That being said, the above pictures were courtesy of Google.  If I ever get to fondle a GAU-5 and / or a GUU-5/P again and I have a camera ready. . .

I was trying to see how badass he was going to try and make himself sound.

The prob I found with that pic, is there was no Cammo-netting up, I guess they are waiting for the Army guys to show them how it is done.

All kidding aside, You could not pay me enough to sit in that target trap. I would rather catch grenades in mid-air, at least I have a chance to throw something back.

The last time we set up cammo netting, it was done solely so that others couldn't see that after we got all set-up, we basically just babysit the equipment (read: we just fuck off).  It's basically an LCR without a campfire.

I have an XM16E1 in the Philippines.  It's basically an M16 with the X designated "for export" prior to Elisco Manufacturing it for the Armed Forces of the Philippines.  Issue XM16s for the AFP were mixed with traditional Colt with "US Government Property" stamps to fill the requirements of the AFP when they transitioned from the M1 Garand, M1 M2 Carbines, M14s to the M16s.
