I didn't hear it but the dog woke me up shaking so I knew it must have been bad.

Oh yeah real bad here too in Midlothian. I was awoken by a bright flash in my eyes(when my eyes were closed and half asleep), then I heard the lightning and bam I was awake. My girlfriends house shook and  it set car alarms off.

Ditto on Midlothian, there was one huge thunder clap that shook the house and rattled the windows.

Another one for Midlothian also. I didn't think the house was going to stop shaking. It felt like a jet was trying to land next to the house.

We had that kind of weather up here in the Dulles area a few weeks back.  Woke me up from a dead sleep.   The house was shaking, and being so close to the airport, I was seriously thinking we were about to be hit by a plane.  Scary stuff when your brain is struggling for a hold on your surroundings.

We had it around our area last evening as well. It wasn't to bad, but it was funny to hear in January.

good thing i ain't in richmond no more.  and if you think thunder is wierd in january at all, have you ever seen/heard thundersnow?  that just ain't right.  snow should not have lightning behind it.

"Thundersnow" (at night) is, in my humble opinion, the most beautiful weather phenomena out there. The winter landscape being illuminated by flashes of lightning is awesome.

YEh I was woken up with a loud boom and thought "wow that one was close" then I remembered that we arnt suppose to have those here. The lack of any rain at time time prompted me to check the news real fast and make sure it was thunder. Then upon pulling up nbc12 the bottom dropped out and the rest of the storm hit.

In northern Williamsburg the lightning and thunderclap were about half a second apart.
I think that means the storm was right above my house...

oh i agree fully.  i only saw it in the day though.  but i also want to point out that i only thought that after i wiped the poop out my pants.  one has certain expectations when the see snow--and lightning ain't one of them.

Was awake but with my eyes closed when I sensed a bright flash. Thought: "That seemed like lightening, but wrong time of year."

Then a second later heard a loud boom.

Then thought: "I deed -- I deed -- I deed see a puty tat!"
