Was thinking of picking up a new summer cary gun..... don't like the 380 caliber i've been carying.

I want 40-45 caliber.... something that will deal with sweat well and can be concealed easily with summer style dress. Currently I have a full size 45 that I cary durring the cooler months. Also, it needs to be trim.... subcompact style. (The XD-Subcompact is out btw)

I've been thinking of a Glock 27, but have yet to find one for a good price. Local prices I've seen are about $490 give or take $15.... unless your LEO then it's $410

Any other thoughts? I don't care if new or used as long as it's in good shape (so if it's a gun no longer made for example, I don't want this to come across as a WTB post)

I love my Glock 36, conceals almost as well as the 26/27 and with .45 power. It actually shoots better for me than the G26 I had.

Well, I would also like a capacity of atleast 10 (including one in the chamber).

HK USP compact in .40

I picked up a Kahr P40 a couple of months ago for something small to carry in the summer. With the Black DLC coating, it seems to be holding up pretty well to sweat and what not. It is only a six plus one, but I really like how trim it is. The only thing that took some geting used to was the trigger.

glock 27, or get a better holster for the XD.

you can always shoot my 23C if you want to try something with higher capacity than the 27. 15+1 in my case.

i read that you'd like 10 rounds at least... but if you can deal with 9 rounds and want a .45, go with a 1911 and use 8 round mags with one chambered... it's sleek, sexy, and has one hell of a mean bark and even worse bite....

Taurus PT140 or PT145. Very compact, natural pointer, 10+1 capacity in .45 ACP (not sure about the .40, as I own the .45). Downside is the trigger, while fairly light for a DAO, is kind of creepy and doesn't break until the last second. But you get used to it, and can find them in the neighborhood of $350 if you look around, maybe less.

I've heard bad things about the PTs from some folks, but I've never had a lick of trouble from mine. I've the feeling that much of it may be attributed to the "limp wrist factor" that effects many polymer frame guns, and many gun owners that transition to them from all steel weapons. FWIW.

Have you thought about a lightweight commander sized 1911? Personally I would stick with something that has the same fire controls as your other carry gun for simplicity. Have you tried carrying the full-size 1911 in the summer? I carried mine over a wife-beater and under a t-shirt year-round. Not hard to do with the right holster. A nightly wipe-down should keep the rust away. I have acid sweat so I had to switch over to a Glock 30 and find it a little easier to conceal because I can use the 9 round magazines and it will disappear.

You didn't say what KIND of 45 you were carrying...

I personally am a big fan of the 1911 platform. You lose a little when you go to a double stack in a 1911, but here are some you might be interested in...

Well, current cary gun is a 1911.....

I also would like to keep the price under $500

Subcompact 45's are an option I guess... just wish they had a higher capacity.

The Kahr line is well-built. Not 10-rounders, but they're a good design.

on my lunch hour went and checked out the 27 (again, but at a diff shop) and compaired it to the 23.

the 23 feels about the same size as my XD service model, which would be pointless IMO - no need to get a cary gun that's the same size.

I've shot theredhorseman's 23C and loved it, but for cary I want something in a smaller package.

Now I guess I gotta find a good deal on one

well, I just put a WTB add up in the EE... so we'll see what happens.

Still open to suggestions though (BTW, HUGE difference in prices from civilian to LEO for the G27 - $490 best price I saw locally for civi... $410 for LEO)

I like my Sig 239 in .40, a fewer rounds than your looking for but it carries nice!

Yea, I'm getting a Sig P239 in 40 myself.
