So here I thought that I just pulled / tore a couple of muscles in my right elbow ?? Doc says I need surgery........seems I completely separated my bicep tendon from my forearm.....ow! So Ive never been under anesthesia before, does it suck? And after a major sugery....(well, major to me) are we talkin' a week to get out of bed, or a day or two ?
I realize the long-term healing process that goes with this (3-4 months), its pretty much the same as any of my other injuries over the years, racing and all......but I never had to be put under ! Im a little freaked-out about this........please someone tell me this is no big deal

If you want a second opinion, this guy works on all the acrobats from the Le Reve show. He has put together tons of torn extremeties, and does excellent work.

I've never had an issue with anesthesia. It's arm surgery so you should be up on your feet the same day, or the next at the latest. I'm sure you'll be given pain pills that will keep you sleepy for a couple of days but I doubt you'll be confined to bed rest. The rehab afterwards will probably suck more than the surgery. Good luck with it, and speedy recovery. |

OK, so here is what they are goin to do while Im under.......if your squeemish, read no further !
They will cut both sides of my forearm to access the bone that the tendon originally attatched to.........drill an appropiate angled hole through the center of the bone. Then reach up my bicep grab the detatched tendon pull it down, through the hole and basically tie a not on the other side ?? Then I guess over the next 2 months or so, the tendon will start to re-root itself back to the bone. (once again.....ow!) Just fricken lovely ! This happens Monday ..... I am sooo lookin' forward to Tuesday.........NOT !!!! |

Surgery is easy.
You breath in, and start counting backwards from 100. I have only made it to 97 that I can remember. Then you wake up. When I was coming out of it, I had a bit of a dry heave at first, then it was just a bit of confusion for the first couple hours, then 5 hours later, I was walking. After a Kidney transplant. Arm surger would be like taking a candy bar from a 2 year old. Nothing to it. Have fun with the recovery though, and don't push anything, you will screw it up. |

Sorry to hear that you got injured. I hope your surgery goes absolutely as well as possible.
I have only been put under once before but it was a piece of cake. Like is said above, don't push it while you are healing. Go to all of your physical therapy appointments and follow what they say. Let us know how it turns out. BTW, did you get hurt on the bike, at work, or something else? |
|
BTW, did you get hurt on the bike, at work, or something else? I was carrying a door (like you carry a sheet of plywood) at work......I must of just twisted my arm wrong. The door was maybe 60 lbs?? My riding buddies think its a pretty lame story.......I should change it to a "spectacular crash" or something lol |

I was confused as all hell. I woke up with no pants, which is somewhat normal, but I wasn't on the floor. Then there were some good looking women standing all around me, and they weren't calling the cops or telling me to put the cat down, so then I was even more confused. Then I remembered I just had surgery so everything clicked at that point. But in all seriousness, coming out of it is confusing at first. Don't freak out. Make sure to follow the doctors orders for exercises, and do the physical therapy down to the T. It sucks, but it all helps! |

I hope the procedure goes well today. Best of luck. |

My surgery was from the other end of the bicep. While repairing my rotator cuff he also relocated the bicep tendon from my shoulder to the top of my humerus. You should be up and about the same day. Count on not using that arm for a month or so. My doc wouldn't even let me bend it without the aid of the other arm.
The big thing I was told was to NOT try to be macho with the pain. Don't wait until after it starts hurting to take your pain meds, by then it's too late and you'll suffer greatly. The hardest part, as I'm sure you're already aware is doing the normal day to day stuff with only one hand; getting dressed, brushing your teeth, cutting food. It all sucks but, you get used to it. |

And, Im back.
i never even made it to the countdown.....lol I was looking forward to seeing how far down from 100 I could get?? overall, it wasnt as bad as i thought it was gonna be, thank God!! Thanks for the replies, just minor discussion takes the edge off, mentally |
| So, 4 days after surgery......My back is killing me from standing and working crooked to compensate for the weight of the cast on my arm ! I took Tues off, worked 1/2 day wed and Thurs and worked all Fri. I'm not supposed to take the cast off, but the stitches are very itchy in there....argh. On a good note...atleast I can operate the computer mouse now. |

Nice setup you got there! When you got injured, did you know it right away? (i.e.; pop... oh shit, or just a gradual swelling & pain) Hope the recovery goes smoothly. Thanks Oh , I knew it right away!! I actually saw my muscles move / tear loose under my skin.....and the sound, ewww ! Best described as, well, you know how t wring out a washcloth ?? Do the same thing with about 5 sticks of celery and twist until they start snapping......and there you have it...lol Believe it or not, it was never really that painful......about the same as a regular pulled muscle Its been 11 days since surgery and I already have about 60% movement and 30% curl strength. Thats why the Doc put me in a limiting brace, He thought it was too much too soon. Oh well, my new dirtbike wont be here for a few months anyways, might as well just relax |
