So this weekend i ordered a supressor and had it sent to C&S in st charles. I called them and left a message so they would expect it. Today i get a call from c&s wanting to let me know that they changed how much they charged to do the transfer. Instead of 50 its now 100 bucks. WTF. the guy said it was changed the first of the year. anyhow does anyone know of someone that does transfers and isnt trying to rip people off?

Probably has something to do with increase in taxes on the SOT liscence.  Still, $100 seems pretty stiff.

Oh and customer service never was a strong point for C&S

I do support local guys doing buisness as much as possible, but a 100% increase just to do the transfer is a bit steep. c&s transfers lots of supressors so i dont see the reason for the increase, where is the extra 50 bucks going? the dam things are expensive enough with the 200 dollar stamp from the atf  50 more for the transfer is reasonable to me since its a bit more involved than a regular transfer.  If i cant find anyone else to do it i will of course pay it but if i can find someone else to do it for 50 ill do that.

EDIT:Paid 420 for the can shipped +200 tax stamp+ transfer fee
so im paying  620 dollars allready for a .22 can that extra 50 bucks if i can save it will go a long way in ammo.

think about it this way .. his FFL cost 150 for the first 3 yrs. $90 every 3 after. $500 a yr SOT assuming he does less than $.5 mil in yearly sales. $1750 a yr ITAR, $?? to register with the DOD.
He has to take posession of the silencer and SAFEGUARD it during your transfer process.  File the papers.

It aint hard to justify $100 for an NFA transfer fee.  True$50 is GOOD .. but $100 is not out of line.

+1

I've paid up to $100 for an NFA transfer.  If you think that is out of line, do all of the work to get an FFL/SOT and offer to do transfers for less.

I just picked up a 9mm can from Ozark Armory, a manufacturer in Lincoln (central) MO.  As a selling point they tout "no transfer fee since you're buying direct from the manufacturer".  True enough, but gas & time for two round trips aren't exactly free either.

In a nutshell, you could probably drive further and save a few bucks at another dealer.  What is your time worth to you?
